Yes it bolts straight on.

DDoctor G31 Jan 2008, 18:01

Cool..

Looks like I have a head swop job to do. And that means I'll have a 4 port head for sale soon 😉

CCharlvdw01 Feb 2008, 07:57

Can i by looking at the head destinguish between the DE and DET heads?

GGary5701 Feb 2008, 08:11

Doctor G, what is wrong with your DET head??

I dont think you can distinguish between the 2 by just looking at it.

DDoctor G01 Feb 2008, 09:04

Nothing wrong with my det head. It's on the car now and running jsut fine.

I'm just thinking that if I rebuild my bottom end then I may as well use the "better flowing" DE head since it's naturally better + it has a flow job already.

PPhinx01 Feb 2008, 09:05

Sorry to cause Cr@p here but I really don’t think the DE head will flow anymore then the DET.

It just sounds strange to me, because why would Nissan have two different casting numbers for the 4 port Heads on the CA18DE and CA18DET and if so then I would suspect the DET head has been made stronger to take the punishment of boost by having material added, maybe around the ports or so on.

The Only real mass producing manufacturer I know that will change/modify there heads for the same Engine is Honda and that’s for the Type R range

Whats the casting mark numbers on the heads?
But Who knows maybe Im wrong

GGary5701 Feb 2008, 09:27

Phinx not saying you wrong I just read somewhere on the NICO forum that the DE head flows more and there is something different about the bowls, but I might be wrong.

DDracomoderator01 Feb 2008, 09:27

I must say phinx....it sounds strange for them to use different heads on a motor desighned at the same time....if anything I would think they would flow the det more because it is a performance engine.....

Not dissing what you said Gary....just thinking logic....

GGary5701 Feb 2008, 09:36

Wiki says they use the same head, sorry for the bad information guys 😳 .

Doctor G do you want to sell that DE head??

DDracomoderator01 Feb 2008, 09:39

We know the exhaust cam of the de makes a differance....what do you think would happen if we use the inlet cam on our cars aswell...?

PPhinx01 Feb 2008, 10:20

The Inlet cam from the DE works but the Exhuast cam is the same as the CA18DET

DDoctor G01 Feb 2008, 11:13

Anyone got pics of the ports on a 4 port?

I recall the SA version of the sentra 1.8i 16v being critisized cause the 103kw reading was a japanese reading which was actually like 95 or so SA kw.

Nissan SA then did work on the SA versions to get them to 100 SA kw.

So I'm sure our cams and heads must be better.

Even if the heads were identical to DET heads, this one is flowed so it will flow better.

I may part with the DET head though, but will only be in a month or two.

GGary5701 Feb 2008, 12:39

Ja the DE inlet cam works well but moves the "power band" up the rev range.

@DocG: that is not a problem, I am in no rush. Has it ever been skimmed, cracked, etc??

Nope everything on the car looks stock to me (no red silicone anywhere etc). According to the AA check I did this is the motor the car rolled off the factory floor with.
