- Royal purple is just as good
- only heard good things about Castrol softec/txt
- Castrol edge is ok, but bottom of the range
- Shell in the silver bottle is also good

also - its quite ironic how the title of the thread is

"oil - YOUR choice"

vveecee22 May 2008, 18:39

mobil 1 less than 500-00 for 5 litres IIRC!

i use the helix - fully synthetic (silver bottle) - i think its about 380-00 for 5 liters.

uhm... edge is about 180 for 5 litres

and softec (highly recommended - apparently, but i havent tried it??? - so please dont come over to my place to argue face to face with fists!!!) is about 110 per litre, and is only available in small little tiny plastic irritating little bottles!!!

ROFLOL - you got your synthetic oil there???:? 😕 😕

hehehehehe!!! 😂 😂 😂

I was reading a article on oil the other day in the mens health, and they said gays tend use synthetic oil. They say that first hand experience proved that synthetic oil lubricates a lot better and under hard working conditions lasts a lot longer and does not cause damage to the exposed areas!

Maybe Gary was right...he mos uses that. 😂 😂 😂

To end it all, Hanco you have your oppinions and I have (mine are right of course 😂 ). Use whatever oil you want, just dont preach synthetic oil is the same as mineral.

Reikert: Use Castrol SLR (used to be Softec TXT). It is about R60/l and you can buy it in 1 liter bottles which is cool, great oil.

The friction-fighting properties of synthetic lubricants have been well established by now. Second only to making sure you change your oil at regular intervals is the need for a high-quality synthetic oil. Even if we disregard the performance benefits offered by the reduced friction, the improved lubrication and protection from thermal breakdown are reason enough to step up to the cost of synthetic lubricants. Not filling the crankcase with synthetics can be likened to running your turbo engine on low-octane fuel. Under most conditions, your boosted engine will tolerate the cheap stuff, but when you really need it most, the lesser octane can subject your turbo engine to deadly detonation. While the oiling situation likely won't be as dramatic, it is possible to spin a bearing or two under the heat of battle using conventional oil. Sure, synthetic oil is slightly more expensive, but a portion of the added cost can be recouped by lengthening oil change intervals since synthetics are less susceptible to contamination. But even if you do choose to schedule your changes every 3,000 miles, doesn't your performance engine deserve the good stuff?

As with the normally aspirated engine, gains increased with engine speed on the turbo combination as well. The Lucas synthetic oil improved the power output of the turbo engine by 10-11 hp.
