Ja unfortunatly you have to be a member of the bm clubwe as Bunker racing
are trying to work out a cheaper rate for next years events .....MSA
liecence you can get from MSA at blue heights centre westvillle ....but
you need to be a member of a club ...thats affiliated !!!

cheers rob

So, there goes that plan... 🙁

GGary5708 May 2008, 09:31

A few of my mates are racing and they are not BMW club members.

TTrance10108 May 2008, 12:32

Well, I don't know what the story is. Thats as much as I know.

Gary, don't you wanna race?

GGary5708 May 2008, 13:59

Na its my everyday car so dont want to take the chance. One of you guys race then Ill race you and get a good guess to how fast mine is.

TTrance10108 May 2008, 15:20

But, your sx is tuned to be fast and reliable and the track is the safest place to test it and see the results of all the effort that you have put into it. Wouldn't that be the best place to test it? ... Sorry not having a dig at you, just don't understand.

GGary5708 May 2008, 16:01

The thing is when you are in front of alot of people you tend to push it slightly more than you should, like when racing an M3 or something. This hurts the car no doubt. Yes my car is fast and reliable, keeping it reliable is the key.

Times mean nothing to me, you wouldnt believe me if I told I did a 13.3sec 1/4 mile now would you. So then there is no point in getting times other than to set your own mind at ease. For me I know my car is fast, I have run a Supra that does consistant 13.3secs and ran with my nose slightly in front of him, for that reason I can say I would be in the mid to low 13s, this is good enough for me.

Besides I rarely get a good pull off and will no doubt miss the gear change or something, thats just my luck 😕 .

You guys race, Ill watch and support 8) .

GGary5709 May 2008, 09:33

VC would you believe me if I told you I can run a 13.3 1/4mile?? NO... numbers are only good for yourself, no one believes them.

actually i would...

but then again i'm not a complete tjop!

the best part of the racing, is being behind the wheel - not all that other crap that happens afterwards...

and i know you take care of your car so a couple of hours on a track wouldn't hurt that much!

TTrance10113 May 2008, 21:52

Ok guys what the plan for going to the Speed Festival? You guys still keen?

Rat you are already in margate so I guess we will meet u there? i think Saturday would be the best day to go.

Gary and who ever else wants to come along from Durban (RBSX?) should we meet at the pav and make a run to margate? I know the bunker racing guys are having a breakfast run to margate on Saturday morning. They meeting up at 8am at the pav and they leave for margate at 8:30. Are you keen to join them for the run.

Me and a mate or 2 are going 2 be traveling there in my sx.

EDIT: We must't forget camping chairs and stuff, there may not be set out places to sit

GGary5714 May 2008, 08:37

Yeah I might go down, not 100% sure yet though.

I will let you though, if I do go then ja Saturday will be good.

rratadmin14 May 2008, 09:28

at the airport or somewhere else and then to airport?

Saturday or Sunday is good, just let me know

GGuy14 May 2008, 09:45

I might be going down to margate on saturday as well to watch. I missed out on entering though, left it too late.

Gary, you should give an autocross a try sometime, its great fun. And trust me when you're behind the wheel waiting your turn you don't even realise the spectators are there.
The satisfaction of beating more powerful cars is incredible 'cause with an autocross its down to the cars handling and your driving.
(My combined times this last weekend at suncoast was 171 seconds, the fastest BMW was 177 seconds. Drifting around corners looks exciting but is slow.)
Trackdays are even better though, and thats the reason I'm looking at getting a 200sx, to use for autocross', trackdays, to tinker with, etc.

I did 5 trackdays and a couple of autocross' last year, including the A1 supercar parade, and my car (Ford Focus ST170) is none the worse for it after all that.

I was also a bit hesitant at first and worried about damaging my car, but a guy thats been doing club racing for over 10 years told me that you'll always reach your internal limit before you reach the car's limit, and so far he's been right.
