New Turbo

RRiekertadmin15 Jul 2008, 22:16

@ Trance - Ja I just don't have R10k for a turbo... plus If i buy a T28 off and S14 it will need to reconned, where as this one is brand new out the box...

But ja. I'm gonna do this and if it fails then we all know.

please oh please dont buy a chinese knockoff turbo on ebay... 😮
you WILL be sorry.. they do not last 2000km's, very bad quality/materials

sorry, this is the one thing you do not buy on ebay if its not a genuine garrett.. 🙁

Ok it very simple, Are you going to replace you AFM and Injectors any time soon like in the next two years if not then just go with a S14 T28 its more then capable of maxing the stock set-up

But if you go with the knock-off I would like to see if the stories are true about the housing cracking and compressor wheel turning off I’m just curious , It’s the old saying you get what you pay for

Info Again:

-So next is the actually Turbocharger itself.
These things really are junk. I have had the pleasure of seeing a couple of these in person. The quality of the castings is terrible; the machining of the housing and cartridge is downright horrible. Bolt holes milled/tapped crooked. Bolt holes too close to the edge of the casting. Crooked mating surfaces. Sloppy edges….etc….

One can only assume the quality and tolerances held by the oil rings, thrust bearings ….etc… would not meet very high standards. These things fall apart, leak, and don’t spool properly….etc...

Hehe! Ja that might be true! but where am I gonna find a cheap t28 thats gonna give me good service for another 150000km?

vveecee16 Jul 2008, 10:33

i can guarantee you that even a new garrett wont give you that much mileage without needing a rebuild!

2200SXSilviaSavage16 Jul 2008, 15:25

Exactly VC!

@ Riekiert... I finally got myself the T28 off an S14 from Andre @ Styling Racing and he says the turbo comes off an SR with only around 70K on the clock so that turbo doesn't need a rebuild as yet... The shaft play is very good and almost minimal so it's still good for at least another 20K... I would definately recommend the SR T28 for your setup... 😀

RRiekertadmin16 Jul 2008, 16:33

Ok... so where can I get a cheap t28 then?

vveecee16 Jul 2008, 17:42

there were a few guys around here selling t28's

contact some of them.

otherwise that other place in CT which sounded like a motor spares supermarket!

Mmm... Ok.

Oh your talking about SA autoparts...

mmario_200sx17 Jul 2008, 12:32

Riekert, if you buy a turbo from SA Autoparts, then your gonna need to recon the turbo anyway. The condition of their stock isnt great, rather look into the Mr. Turbo T28.

Is true! seen their turbo's before... What does the Mr Turbo turbo's price?

and possible a few specs?

mmario_200sx17 Jul 2008, 12:35

Dont know the specs, phone them. They cost R3500-00. Brand new, good quality, heard allot of good reviews about their turbos.

DDanielmoderator17 Jul 2008, 12:36

Still it wouldnt flow as much as a T28 from a SR
