Needs advice

It was detonating because it was lean. Det was the symptom, but running lean was the cause. They work hand in hand and both killed the motor.

We are arguing about the same thing but lean killed the motor because if the fueling was correct it would have never happened correct?

It like say the gun shot me.. NO you shot your self because you where playing with the gun

Cause – Running Lean Effect – Detting
?

Thanks for info,I have been givin ART,Ferroli and FSR as tuners for my S14 -bit confused because one is saying Turbonetics and other Garrit(turbo)Looking for 200kw on low boost and 250+ with high(1.5)and change fuel ,Do i need to do pistins and rods or not ?What turbo?

HHancoB12 Aug 2008, 13:53

Sorry I have to say Gary is right there.

HHancoB12 Aug 2008, 13:54

Uhm I thought garret and turbonetics is one and the same thing...

jjon12 Aug 2008, 13:59

Turbonetics are only oil cooled whereas Garrett are water and oil cooled. It's really personal choice at the end of the day as both are very good makes.

If you're looking for 250kw at the fly then you don't need to build the motor but if you want that at the wheels then yes you do.

The Garrett GT3071R gets my vote for an SR. Just as responsive as a GT2871R and more room to grow.

Just like Nissan and Toyota are the same thing πŸ˜€

200kw on the fly is minor mods with the SR20DET. FMIC - Decent Intake System - Exhaust 76mm - boost at 0.9bar..... Depending on the condition of your motor and how good the tuner is with his fine tuning! It has a huge affect on these cars.

250kw on the fly - do the above with a bigger turbo and your there no problem - No changing of internals - Perhaps look at a exhaust manifold too then. Standard is very restrictive. My opinion about turbo, I will go with Garret turbo, have heard allot and I mean allot of awefull strories about turbonetics turbo! Heard they do not last a few 1000km even! And they are only a bit cheaper! Water and oil cooled is the way to go!

PPinkfluffybunnys12 Aug 2008, 14:14

200kw on the fly is minor mods - Bigger injectors

250kw on the fly - Maybe Even bigger injectors and AFM

mmario_200sx12 Aug 2008, 14:21

200kw on the fly you dont need bigger injectors.

Up to 240kw on the fly you can use standard injectors, anything more you need to go bigger.

PPinkfluffybunnys12 Aug 2008, 14:27

Injector size: 370 cc/min injectors(35.2 lbs/hour)
Number of injectors: 4
BSFC: 0.65
Duty cycle: 100%

This combination will supply fuel for 216 horsepower

http://z31.com/software/injector.pl

200KW = 268 HP

If you want to maintain a stable Air /fuel ratio at anything above 5000Rpm I would suggest bigger injectors but then again what do i know its your motor anyway.

Guys seriously, if you dont know what you are talking about you shouldnt offer advise to people that need to fix things!!!

Mario, Stock head gasket, fuel pump, injectors, AFM, managment, and more needs to be changed to make 250kw reliably

jon, Please show me how a GT3071R can be anywhere near as responsive as a GT2871R,,, they are not even close!

PFB and Gary, both of you are half right half wrong, you both need to learn the difference between Detonation and Ping (pre ignition) and what can and can not melt pistons.

Gary, Meth in water and meth lowers the stoichmetric level of fuel to under 14.7-1 (usualy around 9-1 depending how much you spray) this does not in eccence richen the vehicles mapping, it does how ever lie to your wideband which is built to display lamba at 14.7.... makes you think its richer when it actualy isnt, some people like total retards try to then tune their cars back to 12-1 (odd) under boost not realising that this is now actualy closer to 13.5-1 yet the meth/water keeps it safe due to reduced temps and higher octane, it does not how ever mean this is adding to fueling, its purely people that dont actualy know how to tune when using w/m

1. You can melt a piston from running lean without ping or det
2. You can melt a piston from running incorect timing without ping/det or lean
3. You can melt a piston from all 3 of these together simulaniously as well.

Just my 2c.

I understand your theory here, not saying you dont know anything.....

But ive seen a car running 216kw on fly standard injectors for the past 2 years with no problems.

Also a 235kw motor with standard injectors running for the past 4 years with regular drifting! This however is the S14 SR20DET VVT motor. Not sure on standard injector size.

mmario_200sx12 Aug 2008, 14:55

Was actually talking about the fact of the internals. 250kw can be made with stock internals......

Headgasket you must replace with performance one for higher than 0.9bar boost.

Higher than 240kw you need to replace with bigger injects?

Sorry if my advice didnt make sense! πŸ˜‚

But your right with your mods you got there to make 250kw and over.

RRAW12 Aug 2008, 15:00 Β· edited

216kw and 235kw are a lot less then 250kw on those tiny injectors, unless you pump the fuel pressure which is not so smart on these old and weak injectors.

If you want power, you need fuel to keep it reliable.

Head gasket has nothing to do with intake manifold presure, its got to do with combustion pressure, you could run .2bar on a T88 and blow the head gasket or 1.8 bar on a T13 and not blow it.

mmario_200sx12 Aug 2008, 15:01

πŸ˜‚ No, not at all!

PM me your email - Wanna get some info from you if I may! 8)

mmario_200sx12 Aug 2008, 15:05

Thats also true yes, thats why I stated up to 240kw..... 240 is pushing it even with a motor thats in great condition.

I mean we are talking about whats the bear minimum, thats is needed here.

If you wanna do it right, your mods is the perfect and 100% correct route to follow! Thats why my motor is being mildly modified!

Cause the rest cost money and me need to wait a month or to for that! πŸ˜›

Raw: Talk to me about this? Cam you explain what you meant. What factors need to be taken into account ect?

PPinkfluffybunnys12 Aug 2008, 15:24

I think this is related to the flow rates of the turbo a T88 will have more flow then a T18.
Allowing more air to fill the combustion chamber and if a T88 is efficient at that boost level (Which I don’t think it is, might be wrong) also at a cooler temperature as well allowing the pressure on the power stroke to by higher

I might be wrong

EEnzio12 Aug 2008, 15:26

Its got to do with the volume of air that enters the cylinder.

A big turbo flows more (more volume of air) than a small turbo due to the actual size of the turbo. Thus a big turbo @ 0.2 bar flows the same amount of air into the intake as a small turbo @ 0.8bar.

That's also the reason why some guys make big power at low boost - they use bigger turbos
