I think so far I have spent R45k on the whole car not just the engine alone

Thats doing the work yourself ?

What have you done to the motor ? parts, power wanted etc

stock RB internals with the right bolt ons will get you to 350kw .As mentioned it will cost you R40-R50K to drop a RB25 into a SX for a stock setup @180kw+- ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

Some food for thought ,I was chatting to a guy the other day who has a very strong SR20 who kills supercars ,He said to me that if he had to do it all over again he would stay with a Garret GT28 bb with stock internals ,He recons that was the most fun he had with the car , It becomes scary after that as you are VERY fast

It depends what you want ๐Ÿ˜‰ Keep the SR20 for 250kw ,It will be light ,smooth and fun ,RB25 is none of the above ๐Ÿ™„ ๐Ÿ˜‚ but 350kw with bolt ons and for extra R40K.

a While ago there was one (think red) in S&Sound, very nice conversion, had a T66 single turbo on.
The only thing about RB26 is the sump, have to mod the AWD sump, or replace with normal sump.

I know a guy up here who's running a RB26, he uses it for drag racing. In street trim he does 12.4 on the 1/4mile with a slipping clutch(800hp nismo).
According to him if he have to do it all over again he'll use a SR. Hes done some serious modding to try and get the weight distribution right but with little success.

How much does an RB26 weigh in comparison to an SR20 ?

Pk

the same differance if you compare a world champion hot wings eating girl to a bikini contest winner

here a simple pic to show

rb is on the outside and the rest are sr's

man I'm torn - this car is going to be my daily drive, plus some drags and occasional Drifting. I'm a massive petrol head, so the RB26 is just screaming at me to do it, but I could get the same 280kw out of the SR20DET for the same money and have better weight distribution (The SR20DET is the S13 original from the car, not a transplant). Do I really want to go further than 280kw, even with the RB26 ?

Is the heavy Nose with an RB26 a real contentious issue ?

Opinions/Comments ?

I don't think its the weight as such more the distribution of it. With a six you've got to much weight in front of you front axle. In a S14 its apparently a whole deferent story.

I agree with Charlvdw, Rat & Poizn... SR20. Especially if its an original s13-SR20 !!

Its a Beautiful motor.

RRiekertadmin23 Jun 2010, 13:11

In the long term I would say stay with the SR. cheapish to fix, light and fun, plus if you tell someone you just whipped them with a 2lt turbo its so much more fun! haha

This is a shock coming from you Driftz ๐Ÿ˜‚ ๐Ÿ˜‚

I have a RB25 in my S14 and i am telling you to keep the SR20 ๐Ÿ˜‰
You have a very good setup and if you not going to go more then 300kw the sr will be awesome ,bigger turbo, injectors ,clutch etc and a good ecu ,the car will be great to drive .

dont think that bigger is always better , a well tuned SR with good bolt-ons has proven itself over and over again.

ppoizenmoderator23 Jun 2010, 13:20

how does one know it came std with sr20

PPk23 Jun 2010, 13:30

Engine number matches the original in the service book, or you could do an AA Check to see if engine numbers have ever changed.

ppoizenmoderator23 Jun 2010, 13:32

you have service book wow thats like never heard of with a sx

Its a christmas miracle, *sniff*
