DDracomoderator18 Jul 2011, 10:38

Yes...that will help

SSilviaS1318 Jul 2011, 10:42

Makes a big difference to add the prolong... it DOES prolong the life of the motor

kk.y.l.e.18 Jul 2011, 10:45

ok cool thanks, so how much prolong to oil do you mix?

DDracomoderator18 Jul 2011, 10:47

1 full bottle

kk.y.l.e.18 Jul 2011, 10:53

oh ok so it's that simple .

yip,
Castrol 5l = R279
prolong = R129

DDracomoderator18 Jul 2011, 10:58

Don't put in a full 5L in your sx...around 2.8 L oil, 1L prolong...

DDanielmoderator18 Jul 2011, 10:58

Without starting a debate/argument I would not put an additive of any kind with your oil.
Oil manufactures already add additives to their oils, if somebody came up with some miracle formula then they would all put it in their oil as standard.

Prolong also contains PTFE, which forms sludge leading to blocked oil ways, and chlorine which when it breaks down forms hydrochloric acid.

kk.y.l.e.18 Jul 2011, 10:59

oh sh#t now shoudnt i add it

SSilviaS1318 Jul 2011, 11:07

yip, not going to argue.
The guys at the track that don't use it run bearings often.
(but on the track it is different, we rev very high all the time)

My previous motor I did not use prolong, and I ran bearings. Since I used prolong all is fine.

Prolong won't put their product out there if it does harm to your motor.

With what Daniel says, it can happen if you don't service your vehicle as required...Some people service only every 50K km's then you will pic up problems.

But as I said, u must decide what is best for your application, taking everything into consideration.

hmm... interesting
I would go with RioL if I were you guys.
Had a look as to get it into the country, but works out a bit expensive with the exchange rate at the moment

DDracomoderator18 Jul 2011, 11:16

Any oil will sludge if you don't replace it regularly, from my point of view, if you run your engine hard, prolong will help.

kk.y.l.e.18 Jul 2011, 11:36

Wow sounds like prolong the way but then service every month right

DDanielmoderator18 Jul 2011, 11:48

I believe the recommended service interval is every 5000km. Thats when I do a oil change in any case, if its not a track car doing it every month seems a little excessive. Can't hurt though I suppose.

kk.y.l.e.18 Jul 2011, 11:55

True true but was thinking every second month because ca18det has a reputation of bearing knock so rather spend a R360 every second month an save the motor, sorry if the price of the oil wrong hope you guys dont gun me down lol

DDracomoderator18 Jul 2011, 12:13

Hey Captain...the Riol oil stuff looks good...I'd like the same testv with prolong...wonder what you would see...

SSilviaS1318 Jul 2011, 12:33

yes I agree Daniel
