Nirvash - Type Zero - S13

nnirvash09 Feb 2014, 16:15

so another update is that the project is taking a different direction,
i will no long be going the SR20 route,
now the plans are to got the 1UZ FE lexus v8 route 😉
its something ive always wanted to do, and i feel like with the price and availability of engines as well as service parts form toyota SA it is a really cost-effective route to pursue once setup
the 1UZ is also an awesome engine, i love v8's.... who doesn't

a big factor as well is i feel kind of bad thrashing an engine you have spend loads of money on to be built right just for something to go wrong, i feel like that would always hold me back, where as with the 1uz with a couple bolts ons maybe a bolt on s/c or turbo etc, i wont feel bad using that engine to its maximum knowing the price of a replacement engine
these engines are also known for their reliability and resistance against abuse

well thats my reasoning and thought pattern anyway...

really amped and excited to go ahead with this,
was going to do this originally before my RB25 sx, so its been at the back of my mind for quite a few years,
time to pull the trigger 😈

nnirvash09 Feb 2014, 16:17

also, ive got a couple parts i accumulated for the sr build that will now be for sale, will post that up asap

DDriftZ09 Feb 2014, 20:36

Goodluck boety... im keen to see the results.

AAdrian10 Feb 2014, 18:12

Looking good.. Riaan stokes did a lexas v8 swap in his 13.. I haven't seen it running around the truck but very interested as the yanks love there v8 s13s

nnirvash10 Feb 2014, 22:04

@ Driftz, thanks 😀

@ Adrain, thanks, ya the yanks really do love there v8 everything, s13's included, a lot of ls1 conversions but it seems like the 1uz is gaining popularity and support,
tried to google riaans s13 but no real luck, also interested

anyone know where i could find a KA24DE gearbox bell housing?

from what ive been told the gearbox "guts" between the sr20det, ca18det and the ka24de are all the same just with slightly varying gear ratio's,
ive found adaptor plates mating ka24de transmissions to the 1uzfe v8 engine, so want to use my current ca18det box (essentially ka24de box..) with a ka24de bell housing and this adaptor plate for my 1uz, does this sound like it should work in theory to you guys?

a bonus of this adaptor plate is that it also provides the option of running a z33 6 speed or 370z 6 speed manual, which should hold up much better then the sr/ca/ka gearbox if they prove to be too weak for the setup, although hopefully with the engine still in na form they should hold up

on a side note this combination is used in conjunction with a toyota 3sgte pressure plate, 3sgte modified flywheel and sr20det or other appropriate size clutch disk,

so do you think using my ca box with ka bell housing will be the same as using a ka box?
and any idea where i can get a ka bell housing? also are there any south african cars that came out with the ka24de motor and gearbox?
going to give mikes place a try this week

AAdrian10 Feb 2014, 22:31

Is it not the same as the ka 20 bell housing out the hardbody?

nnirvash11 Feb 2014, 21:07

not sure, going to mikes place tomorrow so will have a look,
also found out some of the hard body's run ka24de's apparently so will look into that

but also trying to figure out if it will be more effective cost and setup wise to run a w58 or w5x box

SSkippy12 Feb 2014, 12:42

V8 in a s13 😮

All the best with the build and can't wait to see the beast in action :200sx_2guns:

nnirvash12 Feb 2014, 23:59

@skippy, haha, thanks, not sure what a beast it will be as i think na it should only make a couple more kw's then a slightly modded ca/sr, but that instant v8 torque is what im keen on 😀

nnirvash02 Mar 2014, 17:37

so,

after going to mike's place to price some engines, everything was looking pretty expensive, bad exchange rate and everything i guess,
also they don't stock front sump 1uz engines and also looked around and can't really seem to find a front sump one,
also after looking at how much a manual conversion is going to cost on top of all the other parts for the 1uz conversion my shoe string budget was looking very very thin,

so went to go and look at a S13 rwd SR20DE in the area for sale on the gum, yes no turbo..
and since i already had a lot of sr parts for the build..
R4000 later i came home with a S13 rwd SR20DE non turbo engine, a fwd det manifold and a t25 garret turbo
am happy with the buy for the price, fits my budget for once
here are the gumtree advert pics, will post better ones once i get someone to help me lift it out of the bakkie...

[/url]

so basically the only differences between the SR20DE's and the SR20DET's that matter to me are:
the pistons are different
DE 9.5:1 comp vs DET 8.5:1 comp ratio
no piston oil squirters in the block, but can be installed..
DE runs a distributer/dizzy setup vs the DETS coil and cas setup
the valve covers have holes tapped for the coils on the DET but not DE
valves not sodium filled in the DE like in the DET
no holes drilled for turbo oil and water lines

things like the oil/water pumps etc will be new DET components so that isn't an issue
all turbo DET parts fit the rwd DE engine

so basically i will run the standard motor with the 9.5:1 compression ratio with the sr20det std turbo and hopefully have a reliable very responsive SR20DE+T
9.5:1 is a bit on the high side and basically is the limit of what i would consider for a turbo application, but in the end i think its all about who i get to tune it for me and how well we can do it
also i think it will provide nice off boost power and a nice responsive engine which is ultimately what i'm looking for and why i wanted the v8

also now all the sr parts i had for sale are no longer available as i will be using them once again

damn my fickle will 🙄

project SR20DE+T begins 😀

CONGRATS.. i was really biting my tongue when you were talking about going with the v8... but now this SR project im watching!

Im very interested in the SR20DE to DET conversion so please be thorough and post all the details even the little pain in the ass ones.

yay

nnirvash03 Mar 2014, 17:01

@Driftz, haha, thanks, i know how you feel about sr's, sure, will document the process as best as i can,
someone might want to trade there det for my de though so will see how that goes, but either way sr... will keep yall updated

@SOA, thanks i agree 😀 simpler in every way

cant wait to get going with the car again, should get it back from Mario/C-Teq tomorrow morning from getting its cage done

so hopefully some interesting updates coming soon

i love s13's....

yip

got my car back today from Mario 😀 , with its new cage and fender braces 😀
really happy with how the cage came out, i think it will be a serious must have for the s13 owners,
also really stoked with the fender braces, they look really sturdy and i'm sure will stiffen things nicely
thanks and well done Mario and co.

cant wait to see it all powder coated :domo:
