RB26DET in S13

WWannabe12 Sept 2008, 11:50

Hi there guys. First posting on this forum. Planning to get myself an S13 (1991 model with sunroof) and definately not gonna keep it standard. What would suggest to do to get a real M3, AMG, Porche (I'm ambitious) killer that will also not be needed to be rebuild after every dice. Stay with CA18DET, go to SR20DET, RB25DET or RB26DET.
If money was no object, what would u do. If a person goes the RB26 route, would the R32 gearbox also be needed. Engine mountings, cradle, etc, where to source, who to entrust with conversion?

All advice would be appreciated.

Welcome

Take a look in the articles section, there are quite a few projects going on

Welcome. Have a look at RBSX's project - 2JZ supra motor in a S13.

WWannabe12 Sept 2008, 12:18

Tx, will look at other projects on the go.
Sorry, do not believe a Toyota motor in a S13 will sit too well with me. Sounds too much like sacrilege to me šŸ˜‰

I agree, just though you should have a look at his plans. An RB26 would be awesome - but the costs are astronomical (hence RB's idea of a making a nisota) šŸ˜‚

WWannabe12 Sept 2008, 13:29

Ok, cost aside. It can be done? (SR13/ RB26). Who to do it? What would a fair (read reliable) RW / Kw output be?

I know it is a lot of questions, but need to know if im busy with Pie in the sky stuff and if I must rather be looking at something else, like SR20Det with Toda 2.3 stroker kit or something like such. (anybody done this before?)

rratadmin12 Sept 2008, 13:44

RB25SX in busy with a RB26 into a s13 and rudeboy with a RB25/26

WWannabe12 Sept 2008, 14:31

Tx Rat, will keep my eyes on their builds, if they post about it.

Outta here, till next week.

mmario_200sx12 Sept 2008, 15:22

RB25SX is putting a RB26 into a S14......

DDoctor G12 Sept 2008, 16:11

Contact Stylin racing in Boksburg. Andre there has done a rb26 into a s13 and I saw that car run at wesbank. Scary $hit!!!

Anyways, he'll be able to give you an idea of what is required. Else a RB25DET swap is a good bang for buck cnversion.

Lastly a well built SR20DET with a GT2871R turbo would see of most performance cars and drive like a stock car in traffic.

jjon12 Sept 2008, 18:53

A well built CA is capable of serious power, do not underestimate the motor. It's just a lot harder to work on and to find parts. The SR is a simpler motor, not a better motor. A RB25/26 is very heavy and will bugger up the cars weight distribution but a set of well sorted coilovers will solve this.

Generally RB26 conversions use RB25 gearboxes.

If you really have to have a S13 then my vote goes to a built CA and a GT28RS .64

RRB25SX16 Sept 2008, 08:27

Go RB25DET, most power for least amount of money. A bit more work to fit, but worth it.
Engine + box R12500
T61 Turbo R4500
Manifold R2500
50mm Ext wastegate R1200
For a bit more than R20000, u can have 250kw+, 450nm reliable. and sounds a lot better than SR or CA.

GGary5716 Sept 2008, 08:32

What kind of power can the RB26 handle with it stock twin turbo set up??

EEnzio16 Sept 2008, 09:09

The ceramic turbos don't like huge increases in boost, but I've heard that the std motor with std turbos is good for 450-500 Hp.

Which probably means 400-450 Hp reliable daily driver.
