SR20DET 200sx S13 - Dicktator Wasted Spark or 60-2

Hi All,

Car Details:
Nissan 200SX S13
SR20DET Black Top from S14 (Not the Hump Back)
Dicktator Wasted Spark
Std ECU still running ABS
Large FMIC
Steel Boost Piping
*Excell Dump valve not installed due to being a load of rubbish that does not seal.
Decated with ony 1 X Box on the exhaust.

I have been sitting with a problem for a while now that leaves me totally stumped and frustrated. Over 6 months and I still havent felt what my baby can really do....

Issue no. 1 - Which dicktater the the best to run on my SR20DET, The Wasted Spark ? or the 60-2 ?

The guys at Race Boyz in Krugersdorp have advised me to use a 60-2 as they do but alas I have already bought the Wasted Spark system, and no advise anyone has given me sofar has worked to get the Wasted Spark system working on my car. The closest we got was starting and then it kills over at about 3500 - 4500rpm. Have tried CAS settup, Degree Pully, CAS to Distributor settup.

Issue no. 2 - If the Wasted Spark is actually the 100% correct one to use, can anyone point me to a wireing diagram or tell me any spacific settup principles that are required ? I have the original Dictator Diagram, but it doesnt start if we wire like it sais.

Help / Diagrams / Top Secret Info will be highly appreciated, I just want to get the bloomin thing to the point where I can get it Dyno'd already.

wasted spark just means that that the ignition system fires in pairs.on the compression and the exaust stroke.its just a simpler design.
there is no reason why either system shoudnt work.
there must be some kind of wiring or even a mapping problem.

This is what I was thinking, Wiring that is... I have tried the standard startup map, a friend with a CA18DET's map, even tried setting the map up myself. No map seems to work. Thats why I am now trying to see if somone can tell me how thiers is wired up so I can hopefully drive my car some day. All the methods of wiring that I have been advised seem to not work. Hopefully somone has a settup that I can replicate into my car to get her purring . . . Please any pictures or diagrams will be a great help, otherwise im left trying the 60-2 as a last resort....

Sofar the single coil with cords (no CAS) worked the best, but due to a 5volt singnal instead of 12volt, it did not spark as it should, it did start though and ran fine untill it hit 3500RPM, then she started to die out completely..... 😮

The Multi coil settup using the distributor to split and send signal running off the CAS shaft did not work either, here it was sparking on 1 & 3 and then when it was time to spark on 2 & 4, 1 & 3 would also spark at the same time.... 😮

The CAS settup I tried with a Dicktator Degree Plate mod didn't start up at all, nada nothing and even less. :x

Even tried a degree pully running off of the crank shaft with a pickup sensor but allas that dud fail too... 😢

😀 Sollution Found Guys - Might want to sticky this for all DIY installers.

It seems that the Wasted Spark System requires a duel pickup, this is why I have not been getting proper spark. This now leaves me at a point of having to invest even more cash. Each set of coils on the SR20DET works almost independantly, requiring a pickup per set. This is why alot of people are having hassels with the installation of the Wasted spark system. "And not many tuners or installers know this, or have warned us about this, even Dicktator themselves have forgotten to mention this to us" Running things this way, costing a load more and never really getting the performance they are looking for, or having continuing problems due to insufficient info, is not what I want.

Using the 60-2 Dicktator, you will need to use the crank degree pully with a single pickup unit (Opel pickup being the easiest and most common, DANG the only downside), a much easier installation to do with less problems and bridges to cross, spending alot less. I have seen this system working on a friends CA18DET and it definatly was easier to install.

I have also been advised that the 60-2 settup is alot better for performance gains (How true this is I dont know, but I'm sure that somone who has sussesfully installed both, on an SR20DET wont be lying)

This now makes my decision very clear and will allow me to hopefully be driving my S13 SR20DET by the weekend.

I Vote Dicktator 60-2 with Crank Degree pully & Pickup !!!!!

P.S. The duel pickup system would need to work in a simlar fashion to the Uno Turbo and Mazda Etude systems, and if one is out of not working, you are back to square one.

NOTHING wrong with Wasted spark set up...

Strange that you were firing 1 and 3 at the same time because you should be firing 1 and 4... If you had your firing order right it would have revved properly...

Thats the thing, we rewired the system like 10 times , and thats not over exagerating. (P.S. sorry I might have mixed the 1 -3 firing thing arround a little there, my boets the mech not me so I get a little confused with those things) Exactly to the T and as per instructions even on the diagram. I have the SR20DET diagrams too just to make sure we had it right on the motor end.....

Yes you are right though, nothing wrong with the Wasted Spark, well atleast I agree once it gets going.... Would you mind if I ask how yours is settup? I have already swapped for the 60-2 but would like to know how it's done anyway... As I said before, would like to do a How-To on it ...

It sounds to me like your firing order is 180degrees out, had it catch me once before, took like 4 hours to find the problem.

I dont think it was 180 out, thing is it would spark on 1 & 4, then on 2 & 3, 1 & 4 would spark too, as in all 4 at the same time.... Thats where I stipped my moooo..... It was sparking fine with the distributor settup as I said, but only thing was the spark strength . . . . O well, will let you know how it goes with the new system.... :?: :idea: :?:

Did you change the setting on the software??

Sorry took so long to reply, was out the country for a bit. Dont know about the software side, my boet is a Mach though and did ask him, he sais everything was set as should be. N e way, got the 60-2 system now, just waiting for the pully to be welded then will let u know how things go...

I finally got it running on 60-2 pickup and wheel. Works like a dream, just have to make sure the pickup is FULLY stable. Still have some work to do before I do the final dyno though, but should be ready before the year end function.

Also just an update on what my problems were that I experianced...

Problem: Could not get spark, or get car started.

Causes:
1. Spark plugs, SR20DET is VERY fussy with the spark plugs it likes, they have to be in good shape and they have to have the right gap.
2. Coils, once the spark plugs were sorted out, it was still missing. Thanks to Andre_SX for the coils man.
3. The 60-2 pickup HAS to be supported FRIGGIN well, if not you will get backfire around 4000 to 5000RPM a total bummer, Will still support it over the weekend and go for another Dyno before the year end function.
4. Funny, Dicktator must have a back pocket deal with Opel, it's the only pickup I could get to work (Now my car has some dang German blood in it)
5. Make sure ALL wiring Joins are soldered so that you dont get any bad connections. (I will hopefully have a Dicktator Wiring Harness kit specially made for SR20DET available soon if anyone is in need, Plug n Play)

Glad u got it sorted. Just for interest sake. I run both 60-2 as a crank angle pickup(front pully or flywheel) and wasted spark on my engines (T-BO & Gotech)
60-2 better than CAS once set up.

Fully agreed 60-2 to me is better than CAS once settup. CAS also tends to go faulty at 8K cost, where a pickup and wheel will only cost you R800 once off... 60-2 also easier to settup.

Hey , what happened to your step for step guide ?! We are currently trying to wire up a black top ( red top ) with the Dicktator.
