What turbo

mmario_200sx17 Mar 2011, 16:01

Hey guys,

We are shopping around for a ball bearing turbo for the GTIR.

Seeing that this is a full track car, we are looking for something very responsive.

I was thingking the GT28RS turbo. What is the most power we can expect from a SR20DET motor with this turbo.

GT28RS is rated up to 360 hp

my friend in NZ with HKS GT28RS... 280kw @ wheels
SR20det with 86,5mm piston

Ok awesome, and response?

How good is the response on those turbos?

GT3071 with 0.64 turbine housing.

Too big for track gary, its a 4wd so we want minimum lag.... I drove a RB with that size turbo and it wasnt instant enough.

Not looking for crazy power guys, just instant response.

We will be running 8" slicks in a 4wd car, so the resposnse can be instant. It wont break traction.

Thanks, will check it out.

Sorry Gary I retract my staement there.... did some reading and you have a very good combo there! Should run suburb with some decent cams!

GGary5718 Mar 2011, 08:18

Yeah GT3071 is right, get some cams and RAS, retainers etc, so you can rev to 8 000rpm, then when you change you will always be above boost thresh-hold and the boost will be instant... 8)

I also say at least a GT3071/76, GT28 is good for a uno turbo, LOL

HKS GT3037/Garrett GT3076 is used by most at the tracks in japan!

You get many different GT28RS's...the GT2871RS is rated at 500HP

Best choice, or even a new GTX3071R, same spool, more power 😉
