Water Injection

HEHE I love my sprinkler system 😂 .

They are getting fancy,,,,I wonder what the diffs would be if we use ethanol instead of methanol...is ethanol cheaper?

HHennie Marais31 May 2007, 12:43

LOL, I can already imagine the black sprinkler on the engine going" psst psst psst psst, shhrrrrrrrrrr, pssst psst"

GGary5731 May 2007, 12:44

I am not sure on the price of ethanol, but at the price of methanol you cant complain.

The difference between ethanol and methanol is in the molecular make us so I high doubt there would be any difference let alone a noticable difference.

Nice avatar Draco, that might make my "water injection nozzle" go active

DDracomoderator31 May 2007, 12:50

Thanks Hennie, if only I could make her real and magically spring a unbreakeble sx.....I'll be sprincling all over.

I pay R200 for a 25L meth Gary, what do you pay, we found a place in joburg that sells it for about R 160 or something but it will be more petrol driving there and not to mention the traffic, I'll settle for R200 per 25L

GGary5731 May 2007, 13:13

I'll be sprincling all over.

EEEWWWWWW. SIS.....

I pay R135 incl for R25 lt. If I buy it in the 44 gallon drum I can get it for about R780/drum which is about R3 a lt.

DDracomoderator31 May 2007, 14:17

Who says staying at the cost is bad, I wonder what a person has to do to the engine to be able to run on methanol...It will be cheaper than petrol soon.

GGary5731 May 2007, 14:21

It is cheaper than petrol, alot cheaper. Problem is the calarific value of methanol is less than half of that of petrol, so you will use more than double to make the same power.

If the car ran on methanol would you still inject water/meth?? That would be kinda diluting a 5th injector 😂 .

We will have to wait for a week or so for the answer, he is on course.....

I am sure he will give a good explination, he resurched this topic very deliciosly...?

vveecee04 Jun 2007, 10:42

LOL - so he spent a very long distance on it then?

Forget it. Exclamation

My bad here. I meant to say forget it when it comes to w/m injection.

Methanol is a better anti-detonant than ethanol. When using w/m method.
When changing your primary fuel to ethanol will be a different story. So, my answer is relevant to w/m only. And if I cant really source methanol to mix, I believe ethanol must then do the job for us.

The w/m is great for on demand octane increase. When combined, water/methanol goes though a chemical reaction (if you mix your own you will see the fluid gets warm) that keeps the two suspended or mixed for a longer time then Ethanol and gas. Note that ethanol is more prone to evaporation then methanol so the octane benefit of this type of mixture will decrease over time.

Ethanol content will weaken your cocktail. May actually cause you to richen the AFR's.

Ok, that was now all related to water/methanol injection and not changing your gas fuel to something else.
