Faulty window

CCalvin20 Mar 2012, 22:51

Hi guys,

I have a problem with drivers side electric window. it goes down fine, but it doesnt go back up. I have to fiddle with the switch for a while, push it down, then up quickly to get it to go. Is it the switxh or something else thats faulty?

new relay box or dry joints need to be re solderd or clean contact points(in the relay box), had same problem, took it apart cleand the two switch contact points with 800 sandpaper and working 100%.

rratadmin21 Mar 2012, 07:52

CCalvin21 Mar 2012, 07:55

Stripped it. The relay box doesnt click on the up movement. eventually it does and the window goes up. any ideas how much the new relay is?

GGrant22221 Mar 2012, 08:44

Dont buy a new one, open that one and check it first

CCalvin21 Mar 2012, 08:51

How do u open it. It looks like a sealed unit?

SSonOfAnarchy ZAadmin21 Mar 2012, 09:30

Its your window switch that is making kak strip that and use sand paper to clean the contacts

CCalvin21 Mar 2012, 11:09

Well i opened both up and cleaned them out with sandpaper and an electronic cleaner spray, still no joy. Going to have to look at replacing them. I will test a second hand one first and see which is faulty

GGrant22221 Mar 2012, 12:18

Try a new(second hand) relay, i dont think its the switch

NNIZAN-R21 Mar 2012, 13:52

new box lol they are gold if you find them
like Grant said solder all joints even if they look good solder them
the capacitors legs break loose and you dont always see it

SSonOfAnarchy ZAadmin21 Mar 2012, 16:13

Are both sides not working or just the one

CCalvin21 Mar 2012, 20:52

Its just the drivers side door that doesnt work. The passenger window works perfectly

SSonOfAnarchy ZAadmin21 Mar 2012, 22:17

ok i had the same problem cleaning it wont help u need to open it and look where the button pushes down on the contact its not pushing enough what i did was put a small blob of solder where the button pushes down. i could do it for you but you will need to send it down to me. if you want i can strip my one and post a pic for you if you dont understand what im saying

DDrillergy21 Mar 2012, 22:24

Dry Joints!!!! Arrrgghhh if all else fails try Ingrims camphor cream.

CCalvin22 Mar 2012, 08:41

Thanks Jason,
I will check it out first and if I dont come right I will ask you for the pics. The other thing that worries me is the switch doesnt allow for the second switch to work. i.e. the switch that allows the window to roll down or up automatically. Do you think this has something to do with the problems I am having?

SSonOfAnarchy ZAadmin22 Mar 2012, 10:57

Maybe the switch is faulty if you got a a multimeter test if its making contact

CCalvin22 Mar 2012, 14:32

I have a multimeter however I cant seem to get continuity through the switch, ( I am not the best when it comes to electronics though). I have a feeling the switch is to blame. Just need another switch to test and see if it is the problem. Will try check it out over the weekend.
