took the head off, mine was a cracked water port on the hg. Head was also leke warped, took a 0.15 cut off it. Decided 2 do the whole head soma as some valves wer leaking, grinded head and valves and reseat them. Finally got round 2 getting braided lines 4 the tubby but those fcukers at media hydraulics made it wrong and now it dun fit. Those poes's, im pissed! Have 2 make a plan 2morow coz the sx has 2 b running again.

Spent the whole day working on the head so atleast i know its sorted.1day il do a sub assembly and just swap heads 4 a practically rebuilt engine. Took out those butterflies in the intake mani 2 and sealed the holes, the ports with the butterflies sure had a lot of gunk in it, hopefully not gona b a prob now. All new copper nuts, fuel lines, air pipe thingies and water pipes ( except rad. Need those!) skimmed the exh mani 2, jeez was that skew. So all in all not bad work albiet with a couple hicups.

She beta run and good 2moz

glad you got it sorted Daniel, just a bummer about the braided hoses.

Goodness, Daniel. A lot was done then? Great. See soon then

Daniel, I know you wish you could have done some things differently in your life. I am willing to give you this opportunity. This now tightening a mani stud differently, or tourquing the head with a beer in one hand. I am even offering my superviosion
😉 😛

Sounds like a job well done!

vveecee18 Nov 2007, 21:10

gees Dan,

i agree with chemcool. sounds like you worked your little mielie off!!

ROFL - i also hope it goes well, it always sucks doing all that and you still have problems!!!

good onya mate!

DDanielmoderator19 Nov 2007, 08:48

sh1t sh1t sh1t sh1t sh1t sh1t sh1t sh1t 😢

somethings still wrong, its still overheating exactly like it did before...maby even quicker! 😢
HELP!!!! HELP!!!!

and even worse now i think i put something back wrong coz its driving horrid, engine sounds beter than before but pulls like its running on 3cyl 😕

just run out of time, you cant believe everything that can go wrong, tools breaking ect. and those fcuking media bastards, it took forever to fix there fcukup

VVladeadmin19 Nov 2007, 09:34

Ok I'd be little less worried, you took care of the head area so that should be fine.

I'd say double check your compression, that will indicate any assembly problems when you put the head back on, thats for the 3cyl syndrome.

Then check all your cooling bru, airlocks, waterpump, radiator, thermostat, if those things are fine you shouldn't have problems, unless your head is totally buggered in some way, not really sure how... Check the water again for foamage.

DDanielmoderator19 Nov 2007, 09:51

The only thing that i havent decently checked is the rad...how do you check that for blockage. But i cant believe its that as i flush and refil the system every 2 months.

compression test, good idea...need to find that spark plug socket 😈
i sorta think i plugged the injectors on wrong as the harness is a little tatty, still it appeared pretty obvious that they where diffrent lenghts so really doubt it.

no foamage, none at all.
On a visual inspection alone, the head appeared fine

fecking thing. I was so excited, worked my poes off for nothing. bad running doesnt bother me tbh that i think can be found as soon as i put effort/time into it. The overheating i cant handle!!! that was supposed to be fixed!

😢 😢

Have you tested the theomostat?
What about the actuall water pump? Maybe it's not moving enough water. No idea how to test tho if the flow of water is adequate.
I think it's moving water, maybe not enough.

dont forget that the wires for injectors 2 and 3 are similar lengths and come out of the harness at the same place. maybe you go those wrong.

hows the timing belt??? i remember when i put my first CA18 head back on, i got the exhuast cam out by a tooth. it idled fine and ran ok until about 4000rpm where it started to splutter, fart, and basically carry on like a steaming turd instead of pull like a steamtrain.

as for the cooling - when you figure it out let us know please. i know an sx suffering from a similar problem!

Can anyone help me. i put my engine in the other, was driving it around for about 150km, then all of a sudden when i want to take it in for road worthy it starts missing. now the engine wont even start. it just turns and turns and turns. ive checked compression its a bit low but the cylinders are more or less the same. all my cables are plugged it. could it be management?

CChemCooladmin21 Nov 2007, 20:49

Goodness Greg, this is not nice. may I also suggest check the manual for possible reasons and causes. Try and eliminate. I am even in worst situation. keep on speaking and posting. Would like to be informed as we go along.

To start you need Fuel + Spark thats where you start, check that you have those two

Remember spark is initiated by the CAS, gives signal to ECU, ECU sends signal to dopler resistor, this sends signal to igniter, this sends signal to coil then bam spark.

Remove a coil, put a old spark plug in there and take out the case, turn it by hand, you should here the clicking of the injectors, and see the coil spark...

That will give you some indication.

I had this happen to me on my first SX, the strangest thing.
I pulled out the fuel pump fuse, turned over the engine a couple of times & then the car started!! The car dies after a couple of sec.
Put the fuse back in, turned the ignition, heard the fuel pump & then turned over the motor & she started.....no problems.
I thought maybe flooding and/or air lock.

Received my head back today. Its brand new, skimmed, valves were grinded, preasure tested, head was ok so line boring was not necesary. Saayman's heads, victoria street Germiston. Little shop there but he has a big workshop in bridell. will build engines for you as well. Got a tourque wrench as well so its assembly time. Yeay!

CCharl08 Dec 2007, 18:07

so geuss who's peeved 😈 😈 😈 😈 😢 😢 😢 :x :x :x
8 of the cam cap bolts snapped off in the head. tourqued each one according to the manual an then all of a sudden when i came back, the caps had lifted. what bothers me is each one snapped off in the same place but it looks as if the thread was chewed? and also the bolts aren't stamped. what tensile are these things? 😈 :x

wwidowmaker09 Dec 2007, 07:49

remember those things are old as well, eh, so maybe the manual didn't keep in mind this is 2007 now

lots of heat and torque punishment
