ooooh I thought from those other piccy's you posted that you removed the valves... I've removed them before with a hammer and a socket, but never assembled one before....

You actually can remove them with an angle grinder, but you normally cant use the retainers anymore, and sometimes the valves..... and sometimes the head...... and sometimes the table it was resting on.....

VVladeadmin27 Oct 2007, 09:15

You seriously took to a head with a angle grinder?

vveecee27 Oct 2007, 11:48

he does have some finess with angle grinder!!!

but the kind required for removing valves is slightly behind his current skill level. practice makes perfect though!!! although its an expensive game!

Just take your time and do it slowly.

VVladeadmin13 Nov 2007, 13:21

exactly my plan

vveecee13 Nov 2007, 18:10

call for assistance if any is needed! 😉

Got my engine yesterday... It was ready on friday already but yeah the people couldn't get hold of me.

Some Pics, picked up metal gaskets on Friday... BTW I still have a few sets available R80

Started cleaning up the block last night wanted to build the bottom end but decided not to since I could not find my feeler gauge and I don't have any plasti gauge to check the bearing clearences, so today I'll try source those two tings. "Om te meet is om te weet!"

I was sorting out some crap I inherited from Calibrator... in there was some NOS foggers and millions of other little stuff, but not what I was looking for, my engine mount nuts

Compare left to right... A tooth brush and some degreaser 😉

My bored / decked block

I normally don't check this, but I found this last, this is in the main bearing caps, check the dirt buildup in the bearing slot, that can cause the bearing to sit out of position

The dirt that came loose

Great Vlade atlast it is coming together. Looking good just remember to take your time and double check everything.

vveecee27 Nov 2007, 09:33

my work internet is so slow i miss things like this.

its taken 20 minutes to NOT load up the pics properly!!!

i'll check it out at home, but it looks like things are gonna be great!

Ran into a bit of a issue on Tuesday, needed to find a way to grind my ring end gaps for the CP Rings... After I asked the engineers to do it, they didn't, they claim it was fine, I measured and it wasn't... 😕

So stuck on the problem I phoned them asked them if they can grind the rings, they said they have never done that, nor do they own a ring grinder... Phoned around all the tool shops no-one knew or had a ring grinder in stock... 😢

Then I followed WidowMaker's advice and DIY'd it...

I must say it worked like a bomb! Left a very smooth finish!

Some Tips, if you ever have to do this, be very carefull with the 2nd ring, that thing is blerry soft, The first 2nd ring I grinded I only touched it a little and went to measure and it was on spec! By Luck!

Top ring is a bitch, they are damn hard and on average I took 3/5 tries to get them on spec

Oil rings required a min of 0.15" gap some was already on the min some was below :?: Well made them all 0.15" for the sake of being precise 🙂

Didn't really have time to assemble much last night, only waterpump 😳

PS: Also had a visit from KimiG and his dad, very nice guys![/img]

is that a dremel tool that youre trying to hide from us? *drool*

VVladeadmin29 Nov 2007, 07:09

Yip... 😀 Good News is that Builders Warehouse started stocking them... The tool it self is decently priced, but the cutting disks are kak expensive...

vveecee29 Nov 2007, 07:09

what the hell is 0.15"????

stoopid imperialisticalism!!!!

VVladeadmin29 Nov 2007, 07:10

yeah since the CP pistons are from the US... all measurements are in inches...
