Intercooler radiator combi

OK now you are forgetting a few things here.

Lets take it like this:

The outside air temp = 25"C

It gets inside your bonnet where the temp = 28"C

Then it gets sucked in through your filter and down your CAI pipe to the turbo where the heat of the turbo pushes the heat up to 38"C

Then you push the already hot air through your intercooler pipes to a intercooler next to the radiator which pushes the the heat up with another 10"C

So now you get air running through the pipes that is 48"C which have a friction coefficient a lot higher of colder air, and friction = heat so lets say you en up with air that is 50"C going through your TB and then getting into the engine where it even heats up more!

That is just from the point of view that Gary and I will look at it. That is without all the mad scientist calculations to not confuse anyone!

(All of the above is not true calculations)

Nothing confusing me here, thats what I found on the net..... Thats all Im saying.

Hanco: Where do you get you temp from?

GGary5703 Jun 2008, 14:54

Mario as I said I am constantly around ambiant temp, 35 is high for me. On freeway driving I will average 28degrees on a normal day.

Seriously do the calculations, it works out that for every 2 degrees or temp you need to remove something like 6% of fuel to keep the AFR the same, I cant remember the figures exactly but they are HUGE.

Guys do this to save space... what is in the space in the bumper where a FMIC would go?? What are you saving this space for??

mmario_200sx03 Jun 2008, 14:58

Just havnt seen it before. I just wanted to know what the difference in effectiveness it would be. Thats all. Was just thinking the amount of less pipping you would use as well.

I understand where you coming from. Thanx for the advise. 😉

GGary5703 Jun 2008, 15:36

Yeah mario, you could always use this system and the go for w/m to help the cooling. When I use my w/m my IAT dropped down to about 18-20degrees at WOT.

😮

Nice.....

GGary5703 Jun 2008, 16:17

Hehe Sokar, on a COLD morning average IAT was 12 degrees I floored it and saw IAT temps down to 5degrees 😮 . Now I have no doubt it would go lower but the w/m is set to stop injecting at 5 degrees via the Wolf. At that temp I would have nearly had frost on my intake mani 😂 .

I have since changed the settings so the w/m wont stop injecting at a certain IAT 😂 . Maybe this winter I can see 0degrees 😮 .

mmario_200sx03 Jun 2008, 16:27

Thats what I was thinking of doing..... 😂 Gary your so smart you can read my mind! 😮 😉

VVladeadmin03 Jun 2008, 16:28

Air that will freeze is also not good hey, the water vapor in the air aids combustion 😉

VC... best of luck with that V-Mount man... you'll be the first 😀

HHancoB03 Jun 2008, 16:30

Jip, Vlade is right to cold air is not good either.

Why do you think they put that heater pipes into out TB...For very cold countries.

vveecee03 Jun 2008, 20:21

hey hanco - did you forget to add the cooling properties of the intercooler to your numbers??? or am i reading wrong.

thanks vlade. and i get the hint. but i keep forgetting about you. soz buddy! 🙄

HHancoB03 Jun 2008, 20:54

Haha ja they cancel out!!!

Mad scientist do crazy things...

vveecee04 Jun 2008, 06:49

i think your cooler must be defective!!! 😂 you might as well install a interheater!!!

NEway, this intake air temp thing. the gotech wiring harness has a sensor, but the manual alludes to the fact that its a outside air temp sensor. i've heard of some people fitting it into the intake so that it measures IAT.

this sound right???

GGary5704 Jun 2008, 08:09

Yeah but air doesnt freeze at 0degrees 😂 . The water in the air would have but it would have the chance to form snow 🙁 .

3300sx04 Jun 2008, 18:53

im really facinated... so just where would you have me put a massive ic
like i have fitted ? you know, seeing as to how its positively idiotic having it in front of the radiator?

🙄

dude - you really funny!!! 😂 😂 😂 😂

ROFL!!!!

GGary5705 Jun 2008, 08:23

300sx, how big is MASSIVE??

vveecee05 Jun 2008, 08:25

gary - i was hoping you would answer my question about the IAT!

go back a few posts to read it again.

GGary5705 Jun 2008, 08:34

I am sure you could use it, but why would to ECU want outside air temp?? Can you do any compensation with it??

vveecee05 Jun 2008, 08:46

yeah - i think that is the idea.

the manual suggests that you mount the sensor somewhere where the heat of the engine bay wont affect it, so that it gets a fairly accurate reading of ambient temps. then you can compensate for the temp on the day!

but i think this was designed with N/A cars in mind, not turbos.

and i've read of guys drilling out a water temp sendor and mounting the air temp sensor in that, and then screwing that into the intake pipe - so that they can get a reading of IAT nicely.

so i assume it can work both ways??? which is nice???!!!??? 😮 😮 😮
