Look I am not going to argue with you guys.
If you find it hard to believe then don’t accept it, if this rocks your world to its foundations then just ignore it and move on its not helping the thread much

A little bit harsh dont you think?

Pin 53 on the stock CA18DET ecu is the vehicle speed input from the Speedo to the ECU, anyone feel like cutting theirs to see if it makes a diff πŸ˜› Also, factor in tyre sizes and stock speedo error, even 10% can put you at 250km/h indicated and you're only doing 230km/h.

What does the ECU do when the speed is reached? Spark cut, fuel cut? Has anyone experienced anything of the sorts at those speeds?

hey pink - have you ever taken your car over 200km/h???

GGary5718 Jun 2008, 12:39

But I thought the SX doesnt have a speed sensor?? Where is the sensor anyway??

EEro_sennin18 Jun 2008, 13:02

Looks like the bum fluff bunny gets upset quickly.......

I had stock size tires on back then as well, and my rpm was reading just below red line and I was just over 240.

I would rather test something the practical way than totally rely on theory.

I think this is once again one of those "if its on the internet it is the truth" situations πŸ™„

on the gearbox dude!!!

@ero - the circumstances surrounded my alleged 240+km/h stint where similar to yours. guess something must've deceived me!!!

VC isnt that sensor for the speedo and not the ECU??

That is for the speedo, but it seems there is a wire to the ECU from the speedo, the pinouts I've seen show it as pin 53.

GGary5718 Jun 2008, 16:10

As far as I know there is no wire in that pinout, I may be wrong.

* First off the Speed limiter is set at 224KM on all Euro model maps,

do the sa one have that?

The Japanese 8 port model ECU’s (Mec-0012) have very different timing and fuel curves below 4400Rpm to make use of the 8 port butterfly system running close to 13.1 AFR before the switch

do the sa one have that too?

No too both of those

I have taken my sx to fill the speedometer when I still had my stock engine.

We have 4 port heads.

Sorry, got a new head hehe πŸ˜‚ 8 port, maybe one day i will change the ecu for the 8port map

If you can confirm then it makes our case, if the ECU has no way of telling speed then there is no way for it to know when to limit it.

GGary5718 Jun 2008, 16:28

I am sure there is no wire in that pinout, well I think.

take id eesy!!!

hmm.. let me add another two cents.. πŸ˜‚ πŸ˜‚ πŸ˜‚

the mec005 does have the speed limit set at 226.. see pic , also timing πŸ™‚

however , the mec007,mec008 and japanese ecu's do not..

http://thumbnails.imajr.com/jap-1074995.JPG

bear in mind that these bin's are out of my own collection, collected all over, and might have been modded already..

i suspect that some of the early south african 200sx's might have been more jap spec than european spec? because i have sure as shoot taken mine over 226.. πŸ˜€

GGary5719 Jun 2008, 08:02

I thought the Jap spec was limited to 180Km/h??

On my pinout diagram there is a speed sensor but it says not used, it is from Wolf so it could be wrong.

GGary5719 Jun 2008, 08:59

Pink the ignition timing on that software is obviously absolute timing and not a reference to static. Now where the motor SHOULD be idling the timing is around 39degrees, how does this relate to the 15 degrees we get??

Also I see the stock ECU runs the car rich even at low loads, always around the 14.7 mark, I run mine at 15.5-16AFR so there is a much better fuel ecconomy to be had.

SSokar19 Jun 2008, 09:36

Hmmmm, Bunnies, what will happen with your new ecu if you set the limit to 60km/h? Care to give it a try?

3300sx19 Jun 2008, 09:57

come to think about it, you're right.. that bins prolly been modded already

if set to 60km/h it WILL cut at 60.. i have played around with this.
i once set it to 120km/h thinking to avoid speeding fines, but it makes overtaking a biatch.. πŸ˜‚

hehe! I think i should do that for driving in hermanus... set it to cut at 100km/h... πŸ˜‚ πŸ˜‚
