FEELER - The ultimate weekend SR swap

3300sx06 Aug 2008, 14:59

I have something in mind, like I said its a feeler for now. The swap I have in mind has a large capital outlay to get the motor fitted, but the recurring and modding costs stay quite cheap at least till 300kw or so and I dont plan going that high short term.

cant be 13b can it? i mean, i smaak that motor, but it sure as hell aint cheap to mod or rebuild from what ive heard.. ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

๐Ÿ˜‚ I wish you all the best if you do go forward with the swap, always had a soft spot for turbo rotary's.

Rotary motors are crap, why all the e-hi5s??

Here is a e-poesklap if you go rotary.

RRiekertadmin06 Aug 2008, 15:29

well... you just need to do sum work on it.... but otherwise the rotary is quite cool... I mean 12k rpm!! Insane!!

The motor itself is around R4500 and a full rebuild kit (stock) is around R6000 last time I checked, that includes all apex and housing seals.

I havent seen any other motor that you can buy AND rebuild with OEM parts for R10k...

You can do 12k on a N/A Rotary but not a turbo'd one, the extra pressures bring redline down to a "piston reachable" 8k or so, but there are mods to make it rev high again but thats plenty bucks...

The CA18det ask Nizan-R , but let be realistic that just 10K for a rebuild that doesnโ€™t include install of management and a Rotor needs good management.
Plus you are going to want to get a bigger turbo the driveshaft plus does that include the gearbox?

I mean you have an SR rebuild that

This really is just a feeler thread, I havent made up my mind one way or the other. I know the entire swap wont be R10k, I was just talking about the motor, my calculations put the entire swap at around R30k

I really like the SR, however this is the second one I've bought that came with bearing knock. If I rebuild it and 4 months from now it gets knock again I'm gonna kick myself! and the motor! and you!

Well... The 13B will be a unique mod to the S13 in SA... or not??

Ah... my bad... well 8k still not bad.... ๐Ÿ˜ณ ๐Ÿ˜ณ

Build it right, over engineer like I said in my Mail and you will not regret it.
You want to do track that motor can be a beast

2? and both with bearing knock?? damn... :200sx_offtopic: but what causes bearing knock?

This is all true, all the options are still being weighed, its a really tough decision!

In my experience, both previous owners being utter chops! Motor abuse, not changing oil regularly, not allowing decent warm ups and cooldowns, the usual, that was definately the case on the first one in my S14. Also heard a bigger sump is a must for drifting an SR!

However Charel from the drift club has been drifting for a year+ on a stock SR with a Stock sump and he has had no issues, proves that if you look after it, it will look after you.

RRiekertadmin06 Aug 2008, 16:05

Cool! thanx! at least its fixeble... and I'm not a chop ๐Ÿ˜‚ ๐Ÿ˜‚

GGary5706 Aug 2008, 16:18

R30k - R10k = R20k

Put R20k into your SR and you will be smiling.

Its not uncommon that batman's are unreliable cars, now you want that thing's lump in your S13? Eish...

No I've I touch a motor again, 1JZ/2JZ or RB25, RB26 is overpriced in my opinion...

Or buy a car with such motor in already.... ummm Toyota Soarer...

ok, first i dont understand your danville grammar??? but i get the jist of what you saying!!!! ๐Ÿ˜• ๐Ÿ˜‚ ๐Ÿ˜‚ ๐Ÿ˜‚

but i disagree - a rotary is a very very reliable motor. the fact that it is often misunderstood is a reality.

anything less than 300kw's on a rotary is easy and cheap. over that and you need to start engineering for it and that becomes expensive.

i say go for it - its a great engine, and in the s13 its gonna be awesome. it sits way back so handling is gonna be better. its gonna be close to 300rwkw. for that price you cannot get the same 300rwkw's from an SR!

also - FC and FD are not any lighter than the s13. in fact i reckon they may be heavier!!!

do it - its different...

and if gary gives you an e-poesklap, we gonna drive that rotary to durban and kick his ass with it and then brag about it on the forum with lots of e-asswhippings!!! but before we get back from durbs we are gonna also give him an e-wet-willy, and an e-how's-your-auntie!!!

wwidowmaker06 Aug 2008, 19:01

his aunty's quite nice

like naaigellllaah

3300sx06 Aug 2008, 19:21

how about.. (dodging the e-poesklap.. ๐Ÿ˜‚ ) a VG30DETT!!! ๐Ÿ˜‰
