Clutch gone

The flued is leaking past the seal. R20 @ autozone.

take the slave cylinder off the gearbox, remove the rubber nipplecap, slide the piston out.

you WILL get full of brake fluid. eish. but it rinses off with water, so dont stress.

take the sample with to the spares shop.

also get some superfine waterpaper, to smooth the piston and cylinder walls, before you reinstall.

you will also need to bleed the clutch system again, once everything is installed!

but still what bugs me is that the cylinder moves the plate on the gearbox but nothing happens, does the kit come with instructions?

vveecee04 Jun 2009, 09:25

it will move until the point where the pressure exerted on the seal is too great and then the fluid will leak.

i dont think it comes with instructions, but i think someone here has done it before and posted pics?

Ok yea that does make sense thanks
I did do a search but found nothing on the forum
I shall use my trusty friend google

I am not sure if you tried it or not....or someone asked....does it select gears easely when the engine is off, does it go into gear....

To my opinion...if there was a leak at the slave cylinder, the brake fluid will become less at the master cylinder....if that does not happen something else is wrong.

I would start with the master cylinder.....that is also cheap to replace.

EEro_sennin04 Jun 2009, 11:27

yea easily selects gears when the engine is off, I had to change gears without the clutch for a few blocks which was not a hassle, haha

when I lifted the rubber boot on the slave cylinder fluid did come out wouldn't say it was very major but was alot more than just a drop, I did not see any leaks at the master cylinder outside or in the car.

When by hand pressing the plate that the slave cylinder pushes I could not move it so its not lose.

If i were in town this weekend i would've offered to help you.

DDracomoderator04 Jun 2009, 11:40

So does your master cylinder resevor stay full....

EEro_sennin04 Jun 2009, 11:49

well its not like im driving around or using the clutch, but it seems to stay "full"

DDracomoderator04 Jun 2009, 12:00

If there is a leak or the seals are not good it should become less.

PPuls0nic04 Jun 2009, 12:01

We'll pump it good tonight to see if it leaks at all, or gets 'less'

if only it was something else that I was pumping.. sigh.. 😢

DDracomoderator04 Jun 2009, 12:12

When the clutch peddel is compressed the slave cylinder piston should extend maximum....it must travel about 3+ cm's, does it?

Also to check the master cylinder and slave, let someone compress the clutch and keep it compressed... see if the piston stays "errected" 😀.

I will see if I can't make a turn over the weekend, PM me your number then I will phone if I can come.

PFB also stays close to you so you can also ask him to come and check if he can.

PPuls0nic04 Jun 2009, 12:18

ha ha, we might aswell have a braai then

EEro_sennin04 Jun 2009, 12:42

I will check these things but I don't think its extending all the way, I think it is leaking a tiny bit thus not making it extend all the way loosing pressure, a seal kit should sort this out?

CCharlvdw04 Jun 2009, 12:47

You should have a 19mm piston so get that size seal kit from your spare man. Any nissans in that size will work, i think ive got a stanzas kit.

DDracomoderator04 Jun 2009, 13:02

I suggest you do the master and the slave cylinder seals, if it does not extend properly chances are good that replacing the 2 kits will sort the problem....but I am still wondering why the resevoir stays full....

ppoizenmoderator04 Jun 2009, 13:04

he tops it up hahahhahaa just kiddin mayb it was over fill and doesnt seen to have lost anything

PPuls0nic04 Jun 2009, 13:28

well, we havent really pumped the clutch yet to check the reservoir.. we'll do that tonight and then we can say for sure......
