Damn that is a sweet engine bay ! Well done !

Thanks... too much elbow grease... ๐Ÿ˜‚ also fitted the new dipstick o-ring - no poping out anymore. Trying to work on the maps a but more now. PCV valve is a bit too expensive from Nissan @ R400+/- for that little plastic piece of crap. rechecked mine and seems ok so will keep an eye anyway...

GGrobblere10 Oct 2011, 14:11

Did you check the chain tensioner?

Another reason why the bolts could of came lose could be because the manifold is not flush ๐Ÿ˜€

pphoenix s1410 Oct 2011, 14:33

@ Groblere - All good with the double nuts. no more coming loose. Manifold and head was both checked that they straight and the manifold I had the surfaces machined. Did the same with the turbo's exhaust housing - won't believe how out of shape some are. Mine was checked and all good... just them damn copper locking nuts that don't work. had them come loose on the manifold and turbo. oh and the timing chain tensioner was replaced.

Engine still nice and quiet. Trying to get some other stuff done before Japfest. - here's to hoping.
Seems like the S14 will be my daily driver also now for the next 2-3weeks as my fiance has decided that she does not like the front of her Chevy Cruze and decided to use a Corsa bakkie 's driver door to change it... now she will be using my daily and I will be using the S14.

You say it as like its a bad thing ๐Ÿ˜‰

pphoenix s1410 Oct 2011, 21:48

๐Ÿ˜‚ don't mind driving it but at the rate this thing consumes high octane it is going to cost plenty. ๐Ÿ˜‚

Suppose I will be working on the economy map ๐Ÿ˜‚

pphoenix s1411 Oct 2011, 20:16

 yet another development... now that stuff if working (touching wood wherever I can find) there is a loud banging in the back somewhere if I chuck it around a bit. Especially when road is bumpy (not that the coilovers are helping matters). I think it is the exhaust... will be climbing under the beast again the weekend to see if I can secure it a bit better.

Luckily I have some solid rubber mounts for the exhaust still laying about that I never fitted. If I find them. ๐Ÿ˜‚

Will be slamming the biatch a bit more for japfest also.

As long as there's no load banging going on in the motor everything is cool.

mmmmmm LSD gone... (thanks Pegasus was not sure but now I know) suspected but was not sure. Now to find someone to do a proper recon job. Any suggestions??? East Rand preferably... Rex Diff and G-box??? any others that's reliable?

pphoenix s1424 Oct 2011, 12:20 ยท edited

LSD does not fully lock but definately not an open diff. Just not as good as new I suppose.

Small update is that I got most of the stuff done that I wanted before japfest. The rest will have to be some time later...

๐Ÿ˜‚ just vakaltyd dis al ๐Ÿ˜‚ - will try fix the holy fender liner and that's about it... ๐Ÿ˜‚ Still goto polish and clean everything so it be nice and shiny!

pphoenix s1425 Oct 2011, 23:38

ok the tick tick tick came to play again... lifters checked - all ok. reshimmed the rocker clearances and seems much better. swear I am going to fit a VE head one of these days... getting sick of these hydro lifters and going VE is cheaper than solid pivots and a set of shims... just need to source a "20V" VE complete head, cover, garnish, cams and CAS ๐Ÿ˜‚

CCharlvdw26 Oct 2011, 06:52

You better off buying the whole motor.

pphoenix s1426 Oct 2011, 11:21

YUP ๐Ÿ˜‚ also the "20V" goes for about R16000 because it comes with the gearbox etc etc...
