Thanks again for the responses AND the pics 😂

My manifold was also leaking so i took it to my mac and he took it off and checked that it wasn't cracked, but all 4 gaskets were blown. So he skimmed the manifold and replaced gaskets!

Now its running super again 😀

Cheetah Exhaust in Rosslyn has got the propper oven to heat it and then weld it. If it is not done properly it will crack again. Cracking is normally caused by other things such as running lean on 1 or more cylinders.... They charged me R700 too fix. Since replaced with a stainless, but then you have heat problems again... 🙁

my $0.02 😉

my $0.02

Is that Zim dollars??

DDeens24 Apr 2007, 20:30

Gary, do you know of a place in Durban where I may be able to buy some decent exhaust manifold gaskets for my car (CA18DET)? I think that the ones that I installed are the ones that don't work well. Less than 5000km and they're blown. Thanks in advance.

wwidowmaker25 Apr 2007, 06:40

hey deena! long time!

how is the durbs chapter doing? any more additions, or are there only two sxs in that small town of yours? 😉

GGary5725 Apr 2007, 08:21

Hi Deen yeah man I can get you some no problem. I think I paid R45 of mine and they still working fine, no problems. Give me a call and I will what I can organise for you. Did that guy with the scrap sx ever get back to you, the one we met out at gateway??

DDeens25 Apr 2007, 18:10

Thanks buddy, will call you. The Wrankler with the spares went underground, deep, deep, deep. Hey Windows...maybe two sx's is two, too many for this small town buddy. Actually there are a few running around...maybe there are others but they are just resting somewhere. You know what it's like with with these babies, they run well, then they want to rest. I have just come back from a 4 week stint up in darkest Africa, hence the abscence. The car rested all this while. She started first time and then somewhere on the highway the exh. manifold gaskets said "whoa mamma, too much pressure".

wwidowmaker25 Apr 2007, 20:32

hehehe, she's been partay'ing in your absence dude! (picking up girly beemers) we all like a bit of rest after a party - why don't we grant our four wheelers the same courtesy? spoil her rotten! pm me your PO box so i can send you summ sx-club business cards (sorry gurly69, you too pleez) to stuff into unsuspecting sx owners wipers

how hard is it to take the manifold off?

I recently also srpung a leak. Not quite sure if it's against the head or where the turbo and manifold meet. or between the exhaust and the turbo side.

GGary5722 May 2007, 12:36

Not that hard beside getting anti freeze in your eye and usually scrapping the skin off your knuckles.

hahahaha.

i'm not alone.

DrG - it helps to have a size 19 ratchet-type spanner. to get to the water lines more easily. it would normally help to have a size 14 one too, but the nissan engineers made sure to leave too little space to fit a fantastic tool like that!

so it does take some time to turn a nut about 5 degrees, then remove the spanner and turn it over, then put it back onto the nut, then turn another 5 degrees... and so on, and so on!

horrible job!

LOL

I've been into the DIY thing a lot lately, but judging by the above comments, I will have to make se the following method:

tools required:
telephone
calibrator's number
couple of blue notes

method:
get in car
drive car to calibrator
leave car
pick up car later

let me know if I'm missing any steps here please. 😉

GGary5722 May 2007, 12:54

Great method, if you stick to that you will never look back.

vveecee22 May 2007, 12:55

depending on the number of blue notes, you can substitute "calibrator" with "VeeCee".

i could use a little extra cash!

DDoctor G22 May 2007, 13:16

ha ha......... may just take you up on that offer Vaughn. As long as the end result is the same.

kinda hoping it's leaking somewhere other than against the head. Although I do have those exhasut manifold gaskets from Nissan laying in my drawer.

VVladeadmin22 May 2007, 13:26

Its putting it back that usually gets to me

The STD manifold is easy, once you have fitted a tubular manifold you will miss how easy the std one actually was.
