Change the bloody Ford v6 engine mountings some idiot fitted while doing the conversion ! HTF can you use these for this conversion ?? 🙄 🙄
🙁

Did u not notice the broken mountings when u replaced the mounting rubbers 2 weeks ago?
Just asking, because if they were not broken after 2 years Alistair had the car, maybe u should have a look at your new mountings.

BBigKriss07 Mar 2011, 06:41

I have a new turbo v8 engine for this car standing by. It needed finishing off so I have not quite stripped anything from the car yet. No, Ford rubbers have not been changed yet. If I do, car will come off the road for a few weeks to get the big engine in.
That seems to have been forwarded some as the engine is on the sump and anti roll bar now.
MOUNTINGS are not broken, they are made from triangulated 10mm flat bar ! The 12mm single bolt holding the RB up is attached to the chassis mount box which has a weld nut under the box.The weld nut is busy pulling through the mounting box on the chassis. Why ? It is not made to act as a lever point for the mount. It is designed to stop a mount acting in a downward force from MOVING.
Nothing more, nothing less.

From all the PM,s and e-mails I`m getting it seems I`m stepping on some toe`s here.
Quite frankly, that`s tough. mediocre workmanship should never be accepted as the norm.Unfortunately it seems to be the norm here in S.A.
The sad reality of it all is that people are prepared to accept this crap AND part with money for it.

Remember that polished and shiny sh*t does not make a good conversion.

Alistair, this in no way is a reflection on you bud. Not at all. I am convinced you also did not all of this when you sold the car.
You and I are cool.

no problem dude.
Sometimes when youve bought something and its not up to your particular standards and things are not done the way you would have done it, you tend to focus on the negatives rather than the positives.
Barry you still have a f...kin nyc car, good body, good interior, good engine, good suspension. From my side alot of hours went into the car and lotsa money lotsa memories and only about 3000kms in 3 years.
Barry you will enjoy the it is one of the better s14`s around. 😂 😀

Never disputed this bud, I really am enjoying the drive and the experience. It is just the bad workmanship on her that is rather disappointing.

Ive done almost 5000Km in 4 weeks bud ! 😉

Turbo V8? Please tell me its a VH45?

TTobie07 Mar 2011, 09:17

Good on you going for something different, Turbo V8 sounds mental.... Even if it might be a 1UZ

When it comes to building cars every person have their own standards, thing is with a project car is that there is always room for improvement, no matter how hard or long you, or any other person have been working on the car.

I am sure if I had to sell my car, the next person would also change things to their liking.

BBigKriss07 Mar 2011, 10:21

Yes, I`m afraid it is a Lexus. But it has been built properly , Argo rods, Cp pistons, ARP stuff and worked heads.
I had built the engine for an Alfa Romeo project but in a year the Tjooners could not finish it for me. Cut the complete fire wall out and that's when I gave up.
Started looking for something else for the engine and ended up getting the SX..
I`ll miss the wail of the RB but it is going to be rather nice.. 😉

BBigKriss07 Mar 2011, 19:13

How much does the RB25 engine weigh ? :?:

RRudeBoy07 Mar 2011, 19:54

toyota 1UZ-FE + R154 mission 486lbs
+ W58 mission 466lbs

RB25DET Alone
+ Five Speed 700 lb complete

from Skylines australia :

RB25DET = ~228Kg Dry with turbo, manifolds etc
RB25DET 5 speed = ~90Kg Dry

SR20DET = ~150Kg Dry with turbo, manifolds etc
SR20DET 5 speed = ~72Kg Dry

S15 6 speed should be a little more

And some comparison engines with turbos/manifolds

2JZGTE = ~268Kg
VH45DE = ~230Kg
CA18DET = ~130Kg
VQ30DET = ~162Kg
LS1 = ~174KG

SR for the win.. 😂

🙄 so put one in your gtr

its less than 100kg diff incl gearbox, unless the sr makes power and needs a rb box, then its even less

good choice on the 1uz, makes tons of low down torque, the n/a one in my colt makes 350+ n/m from 2000 to 5500 peaking at 420nm

aaep88607 Mar 2011, 20:42

LS1 = ~174KG
damn...

ddjtreble07 Mar 2011, 20:46

That's what I tought...pitty the majority of them are so damn expensive!

Very sensible choice of engine. 500 n/a hp easily available. For the money I have spent on the Lexus I could have had a 400hp LS1 with awesome potential.

Nelson Racing Engine`s ftw !

DDanielmoderator08 Mar 2011, 08:55

Is the Ikea shifter going to work on whatever box you have mated to the V8?

BBigKriss08 Mar 2011, 10:36

No, it is Nissan specific. 🙁
