Drifting

OK
So what should my 1st Drifting car be if R30 is not for Drifting?
Something that is good but cheap and I dont have to worry if I put it into the wall.

Ahem.... Ever noticed you are on a 200SX forum? 🙂 Always good and relatively cheap to look at a S13... Sometimes you pick up real gems for around 60k....

CCaptian15 Apr 2011, 11:59

Thank you for just shatterring my dreams as I do not have that kinda money.
*cry*

HH8rlequinb15 Apr 2011, 12:19

You might not but the bank sure as hell does... R60k over 54 months = R1600pm approx... That's not so bad... We are all just dreamers mate, untill one day we all bit the bullet, talked to the loans department( in my case atleast) and got what we wanted.

DDanielmoderator15 Apr 2011, 12:41

I wouldn't take a loan to buy a S13, especially not when your likely to introduce it to a wall. Rather save up the cash and buy a already banged up s13 on the cheap.

CCaptian15 Apr 2011, 12:52

I can not afford R1600 pm.
Just paying back the engine rebuild @ R1000pm and Im sitting at home, not going out on weekend, maybe 1 event p/m, till the end of the year.

I was looking more in the line as Daniel says a cheap one you not going to worry about putting in the wall, no matter what it is. as long as the motor is running it can be missing a door and now windows for all I care.

Stolen 1400 bakkie with no disk or plates? Can get those for like 10k... And you can drift with it I am sure... Just put some of those factory biscuits on.

SSilviaS1315 Apr 2011, 13:40

ok, maybe you will have to start to learn in the R30 then.
SX is the best and cheap to drift with.
You can pick them up for R20K, and spend it bit, put an RB in, and off you go

CCaptian15 Apr 2011, 14:58

Thank you.

Now I have a goal I can work to.

SSilviaS1315 Apr 2011, 23:26

Sure, no problem.

SSilviaS1315 Apr 2011, 23:28

Why don't you come to the track?
Come check the drifting in action.
Therte are a couple of guys from vereeneging that come through nearly every Wednesday...

SSilviaS1315 Apr 2011, 23:30

H8...those 1400 are not drfit friendly at all....
The wheelbase is to short

Just a little bit of input from me on the cheap drift car front (I specialised in this for a while before the S14 😀 )

E30 325
E36 325
Ford Escort MK1/MK2 1.6 +
Cheap banged up S13 (rare but they come along)
Sierra 3 litre+

There are plenty cars cheaper than a R30 that are more than capable, all you need is RWD and a good power to weight ratio. Look through gumtree, they even let you search for RWD cars.

You can even pick up a shit box E36 325 (Dolphin Shape) for under 30K, weld the diff and stiffen the suspension. I've done this with 3 different ones and they are brilliant cars to start off with!!! You also get coilovers for them here in the UK for like £120, which you can get shipped to SA and it will still be affordable.

What is your budget?

I fully support the sport of drifting (obviously) and my main aim is to show people how affordable drifting can be, so if you want ways to go drifting cheap and to keep it all fun, give me a shout 8)

I do go to the track as ofton as I can (once a month)
Was planing to stop off there today but with this rain I didnt take the chance.
It is a odd 80Km to the track and money is tight at the moment.
If I was paid more I would join them on Wednesdays.

Thanks Guys this post is very interesting and a great help, especially if you want to get more into drifting but want to start looking for a car other than your everyday ride.
