Rods at Mr Turbo.co.za

SSpeed breeder27 Oct 2007, 22:07

Hi guys, thought this was interesting - Rods look like they are advertised for R2999 at http://www.MrTurbo.co.za.

Check it out. Brand not mentioned though.

u think its reputable if a place like mrturbo selling it?

vveecee28 Oct 2007, 00:25

rather ask yourself:

if XYZ are selling ABC for less than everywhere else, does that make them reputable???

I for one wouldn't stake my engine just because Speed and Sound endorses a product, it is an entertaining read though.

The standard CA and SR conrods are a lot stronger than most give them credit for.

Has been around for some time.
I have been in contact with the guy for a couple of weeks now.

The guys says they are "eagle rods" but I have no proof yet of eagle making rods for the Ca18det, Maybe Im not looking right,, if anyone has a link post it please

Im planning on personally seeing the guy when I have the funds

Im planning to use a set in my rebuild. I know this is over kill but Im building for reliabilty now and for future modifications, I dont want to open anything again.

well i'm not saying they aren't good quality, or that they have crap service. but i am naturally skeptical. specially if someone says that they are eagle rods, yet the manufacturer themsselves says they dont make that product.
i guess i've been affected by too many crap products for sale in this country!!! like the SA jerseys and flags and sunglasses on street corners!!!

and as for endorses??? i'm not sure that SnS endorses the product more than they're happy to sell advertising space at highly lucrative rates!!! 😂 😂 😂

My apologies, I should have said advertise instead of endorse.

Damn, that other thread with the info on how to identify a genuine eagle rod was deleted. Just cause they say it's an eagle rod doesn't make it so but maybe I'm just overly skeptical like veecee.

vveecee29 Oct 2007, 09:50

rezlo said that the way to identify an eagle rod is the rib line down the side of the rod, as well as eagle logo's in various places.

the knock-offs dont have the ribbing in particular!

TThe Calibrator29 Oct 2007, 13:22

Those rod are made in China just like almost everything else he sells I have it straight from the horses mouth.
The advertising says "similar to Eagle rods" or "Like Eagle rods" in small print read the advert again carefully.

SSpeed breeder29 Oct 2007, 13:53

Good to here from u again sir... thought it was too good to be true...

Sad, very sad though...

SSpeed breeder29 Oct 2007, 13:54

Oh just one more thing, did you read SNS or look at the websit mr calibrator??

DDracomoderator29 Oct 2007, 14:08

I was on the website and they do not say that it is eagle or something like that.

As for the quality of that stuff, I don't have a clue, everything they say on the site sounds nice but in the end what they say and what you get might be something different, then again it could be everything you wanted and people knock it off because it is cheaper than other brand names....there is no way to be sure really 🙄

Actually there is....why not go to them and tell them that everybody thinks it is shit, then tell them to prove to you that it is good quality and that you would not only buy it but recommend it if they can really prove the quality

actually it sounds like we'll know for sure soon pretty soon. phinx has never been one to hold his tongue 😉 (nice one, wonderboy!!!), so if its not good quality, then he will tell us i guess!

HHennie Marais29 Oct 2007, 15:54

Like they say, "you get what you pay for it". I would rather pay a R1000 more for brand name and you know what you are getting. I will never buy no name brand stuff that plays a mojor role in the life of an engine or turbo, or any mechanical part.

PPhinx29 Oct 2007, 18:59

Cool Will do just need to get my hands on the Rods.

The guy says he has proof about his conrods being eagle rods and that the rest are shit. Only time will tell

Also does anyone have a link to identifying Eagle rods over cheap rip off's ?
I will google it when I have time...

jjon29 Oct 2007, 20:34

Yay, I found the email Eagle sent me regarding the subject. Read below...

Jon,
the best way is to inspect the channel on the side of the H-beam. IF it has a ridge that runs the length of the channel it is either our or a Carillo. Our bolts will also have "EAGLE" or "ESP" on the head of the rod bolt and most (not all) of our rods will have the Eagle logo on the beam of the rod.

Thanks.

Subject: Genuine vs Fake

Greetings from South Africa

I am looking into buying a set of Eagle conrods but am worried about all the cheap knockoffs on the market.
How do I tell a genuine Eagle conrod from a fake?
Is there an article somewhere that I read up on?

Thank you for your assistance.

Regards
Jon

RRezlo29 Oct 2007, 20:38

They are not eagle rods.

VVladeadmin29 Oct 2007, 20:49

Seeing that standard rods are good for 400HP I don't see the need in changing to crap if one don't need to... Especially if they absolutely claim its fake 😂

There is no way on earth someone can sell R6000 rods for R3000 when Eagle's cost price isn't even R4000.

Yet the only rods I/we could find for the CA was Crower, at nearly R7000+ a set.

I know what mess a rod makes when it fails, I remember my buddy buying a whole new motor because there was bogger-oll he could reuse.

I remember posting something a while back, saying buying cheap for mission critical parts will cost you more in the end.

TThe Calibrator29 Oct 2007, 21:10

Yes I have read the ad in SNS and I have been taken on a tour of Ivans premises while he showed me all his stock and explained where it comes from.

If his staff are sayings its Eagle rods then its sounds like someone is lying. The other thing that proves they are not genuine is the fact that they will sell you 1 rod, no reputable rod manufacturer will do that as they are weight matched sets.

Believe it dont believe it.

DDoctor G30 Oct 2007, 07:49

Genuine SR20 Eagle Rods incl. bolts retail for $359 ex shipping, vat & import duty.

Why risk the motor to save R800? in that case rather save the entire R3k and just shot-peen the OEM rods.

Most of the genuine eagle rods I've seen have a gold-ish shine where the wrist pin goes.
