Favor to ask - Fuel Temp

PPhinx18 Feb 2008, 22:24

Hi Guys ....

My car is currently down again for some Ummm.... testing πŸ˜‚ πŸ˜‚ seriously

But I have a favor to ask to the guys that use there cars as daily drives when you get to work tomorrow morning can you please feel the temperature of your fuel filter and if possible can you lean under your car and feel the temperature of your tank.

If you have a walbro fuel-pump that will be even better

Thank you guys that assist in this experiment

Fuel filter was rather cold to the touch, it was 26 degrees this morning. The tank was ambiant tempreture.

Thanks Gary...

I need one more person to check... Please if possible

From previous experience... mine is rather cold after a drive... expect if I sit in traffic, everything in the bay just soaks with heat then.

I just checked now again and the filter is still cold, well cool really. And the tank is slightly above ambiant.

Hmmm.....

We then its not really worth it.

Thanks Guys

Why what plan were you thinking of?? Heating the fuel before the injectors to aid in the atomisation??

Its not a Jet engine. 8)

GGary5720 Feb 2008, 13:18

So what was the plan??

VVladeadmin20 Feb 2008, 13:29

cooling the fuel works better in a combustion engine πŸ˜‰

GGary5720 Feb 2008, 13:38

But heating the fuel is better for atomisation.

PPhinx20 Feb 2008, 13:55

cooling the fuel works better in a combustion engine

Bingo

We have a winner πŸ˜‰

But you will need at least 10C difference from Ambient

VVladeadmin20 Feb 2008, 14:38

Yeah too cold and then you run into trouble again... I've seen systems where the guys cool there fuel lines with NOS, also little water spray thing from the window washer... but I reckon you would have more success by cooling intake air temps.

GGary5720 Feb 2008, 14:40

Phinx sorry to go off topic but when you fitted the intake manifold did you connect the water hose to it, I am supposing you didnt. Did you feel any hastels with cold starts etc?? I always thought that was doff putting hot water through the manifold, which heat the air the intercooler just cooled.

VVladeadmin20 Feb 2008, 14:45

Would be an interesting mod... or you know what you can do, connect that water lines to a fuel type solenoid, on cold start open up the solenoid boom hot water in manifold...

GGary5720 Feb 2008, 15:08

I dont think it is a good idea to just block those hoses off but rather re-route them.

If the IAT is too low the fuel wont atomise properly and you will get a miss.

I think its mostly for colder (European??) contries. I doubt removing it would impact negatively over here

Its the little tricks that make power, Yep I have been running 1 1/2 years without any water running through my manifold and TB no problems yet

It was placed there for cold climates bellow -5 C where the venturi effect at the TB would Freeze it shut.

Cooler fuel will prevent Knock and Pre ignition by lowering intake temps just before the intake port. It’s not really a power mod just a Safety mod giving you a more consistent base to tune off sounds like an intercooler hay?

BTW: Do you know that the 996 has a fuel cool from the factory along with a other makes, it is also used in Drag racing as a "cooler can" on V8’s
It’s also rumored that Fuel coolers are used in WRC and confirmed on DTM and JDM touring Cars and is used in F1 where the rules stat you can cool the fuel 10 C below ambient to prevent knock and this can account for around a 4 HP gain on the F1 motor per a degree C

It is used mostly in diesel cars where the fuel temps climb because of the high pressure fuel pumps,

Jaguar used a slightly better method by running the fuel line next to the AC line cooling the fuel when the AC was on but this was more to prevent Vapour lock then to make power

GGary5720 Feb 2008, 15:29

So did you just block off the water pipes or reroute them?? There is the one in the TB and how many in the manifold??

VVladeadmin20 Feb 2008, 16:58

it won't mater blocking them or just removing them completely those lines don't carry pressure nor are they required to stimulate pressure in the system... πŸ™‚

I would have done it, but I hand no clean way of blocking it off
