Project Long-Term....

Howzit Fellow SX owners....

Well, Im slowly but surely modding my SX.

Thoughts in the beginning was to do the suspension first and then performance. But as we all know it! The urge to push the limits is always there!

So..... I figured out what is done with the car when I bought it. Here it goes:

1. Boost turned up to 0.9Bar. (Was like that when I bought the car)

2. S14 turbo exhaust housing and exhaust turbine wheel. ( Modded when I recon the turbo.)

3. Clutch strengthened with stronger pressure plate. (Does slip after heavy abuse - thats with 145kw on the flywheel)

4. Mags and Tires: 225/45/17 tires and Zax Classic 17" mags. (Black with polished lip.)

5. Lowering springs. (35-40 mm)

This is my latest mods......
1. BOV - R450.00 from SA Autopart. LOUD, VERY VERY LOUD

2. Boost Gauge - R480 from SA Autopart. Autogauge electronic boost gauge. Works very well and looks super sweet!

Mods that are next that I still need to fit...
1. Backbox - R500 from SA Autoparts. 76mm inlet with a 110mm outlet. will be put on a 63mm exhaust that expands to a 76mm to accomodate the backbox for less restriction. Will be doing exaust from the turbo.

Boost Controller - R250?? Private Buy. Manual Boost Controller. Will fit to see if it works...?

Up to date the SX is making 145kw on the fly with 256nm torgue. The goal with my SX is to make as much torque as I can with standard internals and use the standard turbo casing but modify the internals.

Also to come:

-Port and flow head, valves, cams ect....... (Still doing research)
-Turbo internals, powercote casing.....
-KA24DE throttle body.
-Intake manifold mods.....(Research is still on)
-Water and Meth ( Chem, this is where you come in! 😂 )
-FMIC, not very big. (still deciding on water&meth with FMIC or without FMIC).

Ok, now for the Format:

Turbo - S14 exhaust housing and exhaust turbo wheel:

Cost: R8000-00 incl turbo recon with new internals and manifold skim.

Installation: N/A (Did not do it myself)

Gain / Loss: Gain is that the boost comes in earlier but more suttle and not wham in your face. Causes the car to be very smooth. Peak power shifted from 6000rpm to about 5400rpm.

Pros / Cons: Pro - the car is allot more driveable and it feels allot stronger at lower revs.
Cons - You really have wind up the car to hold a nice long drift, but as soon as your in full boost there is no going back.

Mags, Tires, Lowering Springs

1.Cost: Mags & Tires R8000-00 Springs R800-00

2.Installation: Pretty easy to do mags! 😂 Springs was also easy to install, not that big a job. Thought it would be more work. Hardest part was loosening the bolts thats been on for 15years...

3. Gain / Loss: Better handeling and lower centre of gravity. Traction improved loads!

4. Pros + Cons: Cons - A bit more bumpy ride but worth it. Pros - See Gain / Loss.

5. Mags + Tires: Formula 1 Tires, Springs from private dealer.

On that S14 Turbo Exhaust housing mod, I take it you have a .64 exhaust housing now?

mmario_200sx05 Apr 2008, 07:16

Sokar: Im not up to date with turbo sizes and so on, but if thats the size on the S14, then yes, thats what ive got on.

It really works great!

vveecee05 Apr 2008, 07:28

yes - the s14 turbo is a T28.

everything about the t28 is bigger than the stock T25 turbo on hte ca18det, except for the mounting base, and the oil and water galleries and connecting points.

so a t25 has a 0.48 AR ratio on the exhaust housing.

whereas the t28 has a 0.64 exhaust housing.

i'm not too sure of the specs on the wheels, but its also bigger. and the compressor housing is bigger, but i think it runs the same AR ratio. or something!

google or wiki it!

mmario_200sx05 Apr 2008, 07:50

Garret T28 Turbo 62 trim 53.8 mm, .64 A/R housing, bush bearing

So I guess thats a 53.8mm exhaust wheel...

mmario_200sx21 Apr 2008, 14:16

Tomorrow morning 7 o'clock my next mod will happen...

63mm Exhaust, with one 76mm backbox.

Mildsteel from the turbo until the flex. From flex it will be stainless.

Will keep you posted.

Well, the pipe is on, and it sounds insane! Def performance improvement. Car is going on the dyno soon, then I will let you know what the difference is.....

Doesnt smoke like Hanco's. So figures crossed I have some luck on my side....! 😈

Well you do have a hybrid turbo. and its newish so that might be why it's not smoking! 😈

mmario_200sx22 Apr 2008, 17:00

Well see if thats the case. Will take some pics soon. And its load! Amazingly load! And the car hits 180, 190kmh quick quick......

Next up.... Injectors!

mmario_200sx22 Apr 2008, 17:00

Not load, loud is what I meant..... soz

Ok, so as you all know project long term got too a strict halt when I recieved a bearing knock from Mr Murphy......

So I took my baby to Faheem, the mad scientist opened the motor and its complete carnage it there!

To start off with - the previous so called exellent mechanic that worked on my car thought silicone helps for lube! Cause there is silicone everywhere in the sump, including traces of silicone in the bloody turbo!

The oil feed pipe to the turbo is partly blocked from all of the crap in the motor! So here I join the club of a busted turbo AGAIN!

The oil pump seem too have packed up, or the oil pipes are blocked!

The nr. 4 conrod moves about 5mm side to side on the crank, so the bearings are screwed and the crank. If the crank kan get skimmed I dont know yet. The crank might even be slightly bent.

The conrod will prob need to go to the bin! So now its the crazy search for a conrod, i doubt I will find 1 conrod laying around.

I dont know the condition of the block or the pistons yet, hopefully its good so I can just do the rings.

Condition of the head we will determan when I goes to the engineers.

I think that is it hey! So please okes, keep your fingers crossed and help me hope for the best here!

I get so pissed off with these top class mackie's that people rant and rave about, in the mean time they are so kak! Waste your hard earned money because they cant give a fuck about your pride and joy!

Im not gona mention names on who did the work! But I hope his one assistant thats on the forum now and then see this! So this is for you mackie!:
I will make it my personnal quest in live to make sure you recieve no clientelle from the people I know! I think you should sit and think on who pays your bills! Incase you dont know! THE CUSTOMER!

Your rude way of dealing with your so called after sales service is also not helping, lying to clients and never phoning them too! I wanna go over there with my bend crank hit you over the bloody head with it! Thanx for nothing! CHOP!

Now thats out my system....................Watch this space! Gary - What do you say me and you compete in building the strongest and most powerfull CA18DET motors in South Africa??? 😈

GGary5708 Jul 2008, 14:53

Gary - What do you say me and you compete in building the strongest and most powerfull CA18DET motors in South Africa???

There is a bakkie in JHB with 365RwKw from his CA18DET, I am a bit off that, But we can compete to have the strongest stock internaled CA18 😈 . Im already at 200RwKw, so you have some catching up, oh ja the gap from 170 - 200 is HUGE and not easy to fill.

SSokar08 Jul 2008, 14:56

Phinx might have a set of conrods for you, dont think he will sell a single.
