Which Fuel?

RRiekertadmin09 Apr 2008, 19:49

I have been running my car on lead replacement from day one.... Is that a problem? Is unleaded better? Am I gonna break something if I keep filling up with lead replacement??

SSokar09 Apr 2008, 21:00

Holy crap! get rid of that LRP stuff. Put in a tank of ULP 95, run it like that for a day or so, then unplug your battery over night, your ECU will re-set and will "learn" how far it can advance timing on the 95. Free performance!

i cant tell anymore if sokar is serious or not!!! ๐Ÿ˜‚ ๐Ÿ˜‚ ๐Ÿ˜‚

RRiekertadmin09 Apr 2008, 21:05

Ok so is that true?!

rratadmin09 Apr 2008, 21:41

I vote for unleaded, unless you can get some leaded racing fuel, zorst burns white

Your ECU has a knock sensor attached to it, everytime you climb on boost it will advance the timing slightly (one or 2 degrees) until it detects too much knock, it then pulls it back again, it stores these values and doesnt advance timing past that point anymore, if you reset the ECU it will learn this threshold again, since you will be running on 95, you should be able to run a little more timing and get a little more performance... Not like 20 kw more, maybe 3 or 4, but hey, its free!

Thank you.

I'll try this with my next fill up.

Maybe then my car will run a bit better! ๐Ÿ˜‚ ๐Ÿ˜‚

CCuzz10 Apr 2008, 09:15

Don't run lrp. ๐Ÿ˜‰

HHancoB12 Apr 2008, 21:35

Dont ever fill up with lrp again...

EEro_sennin13 Apr 2008, 11:39

from 1989 or something Nissans engines were unleaded compatible.

RRiekertadmin13 Apr 2008, 11:49

Ok cool!

Now I know! maybe my car will run better now!

Would this work on my car which has a dastek unichip? My car has never liked 95 unleaded, it doesn't idle well. 93 ul is ok.

I dont understand why this issue must be so complex? What for? I took my sx to MAUS performance- leading Nissan Specialists in SA.Easy.Drive one tank with unleaded 95, took the sx to them to dyna tune. And it is working fine since unleaded petrol was available. And as with the previous post, I have a unichip fitted.
What can be so difficult about this? I just dont know why so called maccies or no maccies , who gives such advice are giving such advice. Will the different schools ever stop?

At the coast a higher octane is needed to combat detonation, Nissan's engines were Unleaded compatible since 1989. The main thing about why certain engines need leaded is the valves were made of a softer metal back in the day, or something to that affect, that needed the lead as padding or something, cant remember exactly but leaded or unleaded wont affect how the engine works.

GGary5725 Apr 2008, 08:10

Older engines needed the lead as a lubricant, mainly for the valve guides.

you dont get leaded fuel anymore, so why are we having this conversation???

RRiekertadmin25 Apr 2008, 09:11

Well I filled my car with unleaded, drove around a bit, and took the battery of for the nite, put the battery back on this morning and drove to work....

So I'll have to check if it reset the ecu... Hopefully it did.
