s13 brake problem

eettienne28 Jul 2008, 00:21

Hi guys, on my s13 std front brakes theres a metal plate that holds the brake disk in place, i think its called a ratlle plate or somthing. My front right is missing, any idea where i can get another. plz

the wheel studs and bolts hold the disc in place. 😕

the big round plate is a dust cover.

you should place a wanted ad in in the classifieds section but dont hold your breath 😂 😂

EEro_sennin28 Jul 2008, 08:14

why would you think its called a rattle plate?
It doesn't rattle as far as I know. 😮

those are called shims.

no idea where you can get them. Usually the agents are knobs and only sell it with the caliper rebuild kit for $$$$$$.

But there are a lot of spare s13 brakes on this forum, so maybe someone can hook you up.

Don't you get those with a new set of pads???

eettienne28 Jul 2008, 09:53

It doesnt come with new brake pads as far as i know if some1 knows otherwise please fill me in. the agents will sell that plate but they want R800 for it.

HHancoB28 Jul 2008, 10:13

I'm sure you get them with new pads. Even with my golf I got them with a new set of pads.

HHancoB28 Jul 2008, 10:13

But then again its Nissan...

wwidowmaker28 Jul 2008, 12:16

i think they wanna charge you for the disk protector/dust plate around the rotor - these lil thingies shouldn't cost more than 20c - but ya i got them with pads

GGary5728 Jul 2008, 12:22

I am missing mine for the Z32 calipers.

eettienne28 Jul 2008, 13:08

i wonder if theres any1 out there that recently bought a set of pads and can tell us if it came with that plate.

DDoctor G28 Jul 2008, 13:10

There seems to be some confusion here..

Ettiene are you talking about the plates that fit at the flat surface behind the pad?
or
the little shims that hold the tips of the brake pads on each end? The shim is the one that holds both pads at the top and bottom.

The flat plates behind the pad should come with a set of new brake pads. If it doesn't it's no big deal.

But the shims on the end hold the pad in in position.

Gary on the Z32 calipers it uses pins that go through the caliper and through holes in the pads. So it doesn't use the metal plate shims afaik. They do sell the pins seperately.

post a pic of what your talking about...

GGary5728 Jul 2008, 13:34

I think he is talking about the anti rattle plates that sit at either end of the pads (top and bottom).

Yes DocG,I made my own pins. The anti rattle plate the goes over the top of the pads is what I am missing, cross shaped thin plate. I am using silicone now, works 100%.
