One Savage project!!! 56k unfriendly

2200SXSilviaSavage02 Sept 2008, 17:50

Hi everyone... It's been ages since I've posted and that's because I've been keeping my little project a secret... I wanted to post this project once it had been completed but I'm too impatient so I might as well give you guys an update on what's been cooking 8) 🙂 .............

It all started with my turbo smoking, which wasn't really that bad yet, then eventually my clutch started slipping... This got to the point where I couldn't even drive more than 60kmph cause of the damn thing so I retired it for a while to "replace the clutch and recon the turbo" which is just a little bit less from what I've done now 😂

The first weekend saw us jacking up the car and prepping everything...

Then we started stripping...

The turbo out with the manifold...

Next we had to take out the gearbox and this was pretty awesome for me, considering I'm only 18 and don't have much hands-on experience. I learnt a lot about how things work and really enjoyed the experience and work...

This thing was extremely dirty when we took it out...

Couldn't have done this without the help of my dad! 😀

I couldn't put the dirty box back in again like that so I had to clean it...
It took me about 2 weeks on and off to get the stupid thing clean!
The previous pics were the before pics and here are the after pics...

Spotless!

Some of the other dirt and grime that had to be cleaned...

The worn clutch...

The pressure plate...

The flywheel bolts which were hell to take off! 😮

2200SXSilviaSavage02 Sept 2008, 18:27

After the flywheel, clutch and pressure plate had been sent off, it was time to sort out the turbo...
I thought it would be a little more to go with something a little bigger such as the SR20 T28 turbo so we finally found one...

We sent the turbo in for recon only to find they couldn't balance it because the shaft was slightly bent, they reconned it but just didn't balance it...
So after that long story we eventually decided on doing what we originally wanted to do, and that was the T28/T3 turbo from Mr Turbo which seems like it's gonna work really sweetly with my CA 8) ...

We got a spacer too because the compressor housing hits the manifold and can't fit that way as I'm still using the standard manifold...

We thought it would be better to take out the engine as we've gone this far already... Also would be easier to assemble everything outside the engine bay...

Taking off the fuel rail to check the injectors...

Opened the tappet covers too...

The sump was leaking so we turned the engine around and took it off...
We saw iron chips on the oil pickup and on the sides of the block, but most of all found out how finished my rings were... And this meant rebuild... I had exams coming up soon and didn't have the time to do the rebuild myself so we sent it to a reputable tuner to get the block rebuilt and the head done too...

Reconned standard injectors...

4 PUK sprung cage copper clutch with new strengthened teeth on pressure plate...

GReddy E-manage piggyback ECU...

Walbro 255 l/h fuel pump...

Manual boost controller...

Adjustable FPR with gauge...

I'll keep you guys updated when the engine comes back 8) 😀

2200SXSilviaSavage02 Sept 2008, 18:43

Shot Mario! Yeah hope everything will pull together nicely... But your SR will still give me a whippin' 😉

ppoizenmoderator02 Sept 2008, 18:44

2200SXSilviaSavage02 Sept 2008, 18:49

Turbo was R3500 and the spacer was made up and came with the radiator... Don't have the spacer with me at the moment but it is around 80mm...

RRiekertadmin02 Sept 2008, 18:50

dude this looks sweet! well done! Oh and if I may ask what you pay for the greddy piggyback and whalboro fuelpump?

TTrance10102 Sept 2008, 18:51

Awesome man! looking great so far! 🙂

Can I ask where you got the radiator from and how much you got it for?

2200SXSilviaSavage02 Sept 2008, 18:54

Turbo was R3500 and the spacer was made up and came with the radiator... Don't have the spacer with me at the moment but it is around 80mm...

2200SXSilviaSavage02 Sept 2008, 18:57

Thanx Reikert and Trance! the ECU was R3500, pump was R1200 and the radiator was R2400...

rratadmin02 Sept 2008, 19:11

Looking good there. Hope you going to clean the engine bay while the engine is out. Dont think anyone here has got a turbo like that! Keep us updated :200sx_chinese:

SR 20 Radiator, keep in mind you gonna need a zig zag water pipe on a CA!

Why photoshop 3 letters off the pump?

2200SXSilviaSavage03 Sept 2008, 07:39

Thanx rat... I've already cleaned the engine bay...

Sokar... Already got the zig zag pipes for the radiator ( just adds to all the shiny bits in the engine bay 8) ) and I photoshoped most of the codes and numbers just in case 😂

Trance... got the radiator at Styling Racing up here in Joburg...

DDracomoderator03 Sept 2008, 07:53

That looks great....I just as exited to see what that turbo does...if it is possible....before putting all the other extras in.....just do the turbo and see what difference it makes from standerd....the compressor housing is a AR42....as far as I know you could have asked for a bit bigger with no charge....

vveecee03 Sept 2008, 08:23

photoshopping the numbers off - just in case what???

2200SXSilviaSavage03 Sept 2008, 09:14

Draco... Don't want too much lag seeing as it's my daily driver so I guess the size is okay...

Veecee... In case someone tries to forge the part numbers and takes me and everyone I know hostage, and ultimately takes over the world and puts an end to humankind as we know it 😂 😂

DDracomoderator03 Sept 2008, 09:19

Taking a bigger exhaust housing will give lag....bigger compression housing will give more volume and flowwwwwwwwww......I was asking about the compression housing.....it will work fine.....just better with a bigger compression housing...

2200SXSilviaSavage03 Sept 2008, 09:42

Yeah that's true... Never thought of asking them for a bigger compressor housing... Although I think they sell those turbos as is and not to your specs...

DDracomoderator03 Sept 2008, 09:58

Ok....just phoned them...they don't stock a bigger compression housing for that.....although you loose a bit of volume and flow....you do get velociry in exhange.....if your piping is the right size....well....that will be good....very....
