DDanielmoderator05 Sept 2008, 09:40

Hey guys, taking on a full rebuild atm...hope it works out

Anyway my question is, why does everything seem so cheap?

AE mains R161
AE Bigends R80
hastings rings R155

It just all seems so cheap i dont know if i can trust them...

Daniel why don't you get ACL bearings instead? They're around R500 a set but you should get some peace of mind with it at the very least.

Also be very careful not to touch the surface area of the bearings at all. If you even breath too hard on those lead copper bearings you will create imperfections which can lead to bearing failure.

Oh and it goes without saying that you need to photograph and document the entire build on a thread off course 😉

Good luck!

nothing wrong with the cheaper stuf
my motor is running on it and it is still working 8 months now.
ask PFB i drive the shit out of this car on a daily basis.
rings was i think R150 big ends also around R150 mains on my 93 was difrent than what the computer said but got the right ones for R250 and a payen head gasket.

mmario_200sx06 Sept 2008, 13:25

Not to cause any shit here, but going the cheap route is going to cost you more money in the long run.

Rather go ACL Race bearings, they are very very good!

8 months with no problems is just a drop in the bucket! Not saying your call will break, but you get what you pay for! And we all know that, it has been proven!

personally i swear by that ceramic piston coating.. had it done on three motors now, very good idea 8)

does anybody know where 2 get ACL bearings in PTA?

vveecee11 Sept 2008, 01:00

rezlo?

EEnzio11 Sept 2008, 14:28

Just finished my rebuild with ACL bearings. Had to order from the cape though....was about R700 bucks for big ends, mains and courier.

I was looking and nobody in pta had, so they'll have to order.

The benefits of pitching up at my house, at the right time... 8)

Before you all scream for freebee's its all gone boys... 😉 My ass is in New Zealand

D... The parts is pretty cheap... its the engineering that is expensive... I know you can get a lot done via your buddy, so you got that added bonus their too...

I always say get it done once get it done decently... get the motor balanced after the rebuild, you'll have a long running beauty

BTW: I couldn't get hold of oversize ACL Race bearings, but normal ACL's work just perfect and is my bearing of choice, we tried fitting some retro sh!t in Chem's motor, had to exchange them for ACL's because they wouldn't fit perfectly...

True that - my costs for engineering was about R3500 for my rebuild.

VVladeadmin12 Sept 2008, 13:37

yeah it all ends up what you get done... getting the head reconditioned is most probably the most expensive part...

DDrillergy12 Sept 2008, 13:42

Vlade You in NZ, any contacts for parts there at goos prices??????
