SR20DET water pump

RRiekertadmin13 May 2009, 20:09

Hey dudes... so I discovered my car keeps using coolant... and I noticed this damp patch on the paving in the garage...

Now this bothered me the past week... So tonite I did a bit of investigating, only to find that its my waterpump thats leaking. I searched a few forums and they say its something called a weeping hole... to tell you your water pump is f$##ed... Like just underneath the pump?? is this true??. Can I now say that my pump is Fooked?

if it is... then a long list of swear words will commence....

pphoenix s1413 May 2009, 20:52

Start swearing them long words man... I had the problem with my Sentra 160 and with the 200sti and with my Primera... so yeah there is a hole on the bottom of the water pump and as soon as the seal goes it starts running out there...

Lesson I learned concerning keeping your cooling system optimal and not getting them cracked heads everyone keeps moaning about on Nissans...

Mix your anti-freeze with DISTILLED water. It does not contain minerals and hence does not form big rust deposits. usually only a thin light brown film and that is that... šŸ˜‰

Believe me it is worth spending the bucks... just make sure it is not "battery water" as this is acidic. has to be pure distilled water...

yep, i concur.. there is indeed a weeping hole at the bottom of the waterpump, underneath the shaft.
and more than a drop or two water coming out there means only one thing : the shaft seal is busy packing up or has already packed up.. sorry mate šŸ™

f#$k S#@t C#$t C#@K B#@%H MotherF#@#er ARGHH!!!!!!!!!! 😈 😈 😈

dammit!!!

oh.. and its not just a few drops... its like a little stream... well... better that I see it now... otherwise it might've k@ked doing 120 on the N1 to Cape Town....

what will a new one set me back?

vveecee13 May 2009, 22:25

eish - depends on if you go genuine nissan or pirate!

i think its over 1200 for genuine. about 20% of that for pirate.

RRiekertadmin13 May 2009, 22:34

Distilled water is similar to De-Ionised water the process involes running the water through a filter system, then a reverse osmosis(RO) system and then deionizer. This will lower the conductivity of the water to a point where the water has very little minerals in them eg. Magnesium or Potassium.

Putting this in your vehicle is good, but bear in mind....

This water would absorb minerals faster then normal water, the water is so pure that if you wash you hands with it, you hands would get very dry cos it would absorb all the minerals and oils on your hands.

Same thing would happen in your car, so if you gonna use distilled water make sure you do a full water flush with distilled water a few times before using it and yes it is better that using normal water.

My 2c. šŸ˜‰

RRiekertadmin14 May 2009, 08:23

isn't distilled water expensive to buy?? especially if you need to flush a couple of times....

DDrillergy14 May 2009, 08:25

No, its cheap. You usually only pay for the bottle.

DDrillergy14 May 2009, 08:27

If you cant find it cheap, let me know. Ill source it for you in CT.

Pull up some of my old contacts.

mmm cool thanx! will give you a shout If I get stuck

DDrillergy14 May 2009, 08:37

Oh ok, I dont want that to happen.

Look for a chemical supply comapny in your area, and I ask them for Distilled water, its packaged in 5, 10 and 25lts.

hhentiebez14 May 2009, 10:06

most battery centres do distilled water, you can also take a container with

DDrillergy14 May 2009, 10:10

Oh yea, and Im getting various scientific companies to manufacture ultra pure water in CT.

"the water is so pure that if you wash you hands with it, you hands would get very dry"

jeesh, now I am wondering about whether it is safe to drink 'pure water'

+1

Water contains minerals that good for you. IF you run it through a RO membrane system then its fine to drink.

When you buy bottled water you can have a look at the back, if its not spring water its usually RO water.

@ Riekert, you can get it from any Midas.
šŸ˜‰

After De-Ionisation the water is almost pure Analytical grade H20.
The conductivity is around 0.018um. Its not advisable to drink but I doubt you'd come into contact with water like this unless you in a lab.

H 2 O = Helse twee ore?

RRiekertadmin15 May 2009, 09:19
