CA18DET stroker kit

AAndrew.200SX27 May 2009, 12:16

Hi guys

In an older Speed & Sound mag they mentioned that you can get a "Kit" to take the CA18DET from the 1.8 up to a 2.2 , does anyone know anything about this?

GGary5727 May 2009, 12:20

Yes I think Tomie makes it, about R20k though.

There goes that plan 😂

Well Not really, there was two kits one from Tomie the 2ltr stroker and one from Jun the 2.2 liter stroker.

You can’t use a CA20E crank in a CA18DET block because the crank journals are to smaller then the CA18 crank but you can fit a CA18DET Head onto a CA20E block its very much the same as the RB30DET build but the head bolts and timing belt need to be sorted there is a guy in Germany that I email every so often that does this swap but I have never asked or see pictures.

But he does say the Ca20E is an overall weaker set-up stock for stock then the CA18DET but he does say the forged CA18DET pistons can be used and he can get eagle to make custom con-rods he also says the low down tourque is amazing but the CA20E flywheel needs to be used and the CA18DET clutches modified

Here is a guy that’s done it

But you could go the route that was suggested to me after I rebuilt my damn motor you can have the Smaller journals of the CA20 crank metal stitched up and polished to match stock CA18DE size but then you will still need the custom conrods to my knowledge I might be wrong

Also I forgot to add if you do the CA20E bottom end you will need to tap the block for the idler pull, plus tap for the oil squirters and take the crank girdle over as well also im not sure if you can beep the air-con and AC I didn’t ask

Also norries sells a stroker crank for R18000

I can allways rely on you Mr. Pinkfluffybunnys to get me the correct information.

Thanks again

Just for interestsake, whats the biggest oversize pistons you can use in the ca18?

Im assuming you mean before getting to close to your water channels becomes an issues to be honest I dont know.

But I know the normal over size is 84mm

I cant remember the math ,to what cc will that take you?

PPinkfluffybunnys27 May 2009, 15:06

I stand to be corrected here but if my math is right 1853cc

Alright Guys who wants to build SA's first CA20DET ?

I got the inside info from a friend.
What’s needed?

* CA20E Block
* CA20E Crank
* Mistu 4G63 (First gen Conrods) -Must be the narrow big end good for 400HP
* Custom Pistons from Aries - (84.5mm) or B20\CRV pistons fitted with a B16 head (Guy says these are common off the shelf stuff where he is)
* Crank Girdle - Use the Ca20E caps but the CA18DET Bolts will fit
* CA18DET Oil Pump
* Custom Cam-belt - has to be custom made not that expensive

You will need to tap the CA20E block in the same place as the CA18DET idler pulley drill to 8.6mm and tap to m10. You can use the stock CA20E flywheel and CA18DET Clutch.

The guy recommends ARP head bolts the set-up is good for 400 HP but does not Rev as good because of the longer stroke around 88mm

RB25 FTW!!!

now this is what The Amazing Race shouldv been 😂

PPinkfluffybunnys28 May 2009, 09:40

There is no denying stock for stock and modified the RB25 is the better motor but its been done its like all the SR20,RB20,RB25 and 2Jz swaps there are hundreds.

I would love to see a CA20DET or FJ20 powered S13 that would be impressive but also I think it will cost a little less then half to make a CA20DET then it would to swap in a RB25 Correctly

I dont think so, I guestimate R25000 to fit a RB25 into a S13. to build a CA20 (well to my standards) will cost about the same...

PPinkfluffybunnys28 May 2009, 10:22

I guestimate R25000

Including the motor? or Excluding?

Also I take it that’s with no new water pump,oil pump, Clutch, Timing belt, Timing belt pulleys, acc belts possibly not even dropping the sump to check the inside of the motor also running the stock radiator why is the standard of a swap lower then your rebuild standard?

But I hope you can prove me wrong keep the slips we can add up at the end but I cant see you keeping it under R25000 excluding the motor for an everyday,reliable 100-000km swap.

Also a CA20DET is still more unique then a RB25 Swap any day.
