WANTED: Opel Corsa bakkie

GGary5706 Aug 2009, 14:20

So its time for my SX to retire into the garage to sleep under a car cover.

So I need a replacement and a Corsa bakkie will do just fine for now. I am keen to drop a 2.0lt into it so am looking for a fixer-uper. If anyone knows of a Bakkie for sale please let me know, old shape hey.

Age and milage means nothing to me 😈 .

RRiekertadmin06 Aug 2009, 15:28

Why is the SX retiring?

Why is the SX retiring?

Time to be polished and pampered and made into showroom condition again...

The old shape? you mean that little pimple with wheals on it?
You should be worried about mileage otherwise you'll be replacing suspension bushes, Brakes and C.V.'s till it comes out your ears.
There is more to a car than just a motor.

Not to mention by the time you've done all the repairs(presuming you'll do a good job.), bought the motor and gearbox(If you know Opel you'd know there is only 2 worth wile setups, Super-boss(2l 16v with 5mm stems+ Shric Cams and 11.5 compression ratio) or the TS setup) and put in the rite support gear you could have bought a good second hand bakkie. And at the end of the day you'll still be sitting with just a corsa?

The way i see it, unless you're a die hard enthusiast, you'd be wasting good time and money.

Yeah the old one, I like the look of these. I really dont mind changing CV joints brakes, bushes etc, I do it most weekends so it is no stress for me.

I have done a 2lt 8v swap before with great success. I am not looking for a street racer but I dont want to drive a sluggish 160is. I wont be racing this thing so stock brakes will be fine.

I think you learn on this forum that I work on cars everyday so I do know what is involved when I plan a project. No need for schooling here but thanks for your efforts 😂 .

Been thinking the same thing for a while now. I will try not to post on controversial topics anymore...

Humility is a true sign of wisdom.

There's a reason why no one uses the 2l 8v... but i wont try "schooling" you again.

Good luck with the project.

GGary5707 Aug 2009, 09:11

There's a reason why no one uses the 2l 8v... but i wont try "schooling" you again.

The reason no one else uses the 2lt 8v in a Corsa is because it wont be "that" much faster. But again I am not wanting to race it, I just want a bit more power over the stock 1.4 or 1.6. I have my SX to go fast in, this will be my daily and will use it for dumping stuff from around the house.

I would love to have C20XE motor in it but that is not a simple drop in and It will be too powerfull for a light FWD car. The C20LET is stupid in these bakkies, they were stupid in the TS, torque steer all over the road and it still wasnt fast. I love the engines just not what they were fitted to.

Point taken, But even the 2l 8v will present itself overpowered... the g1 is just not a good frame to start off with. you'll still get torque steel and it wont go anywhere.

You misunderstood my point completely, rather than suggesting an alternative mod, i was merely pointing out that if you ad up the time, hassle and money you'll be putting into the project bearing in mind the PURPOSE.....Is it really worth it?

You'd be better of spending the same money on a well kept 1600...

WWes07 Aug 2009, 09:57

Sometimes its not about what you get at the end of the project.
Sometimes its about the joy of actually working on the project and knowing that the end result is something you put your own time and money into and knowing you did it right...

GGuy07 Aug 2009, 10:17

Why don't you drop a diesel in a corsa, then crank the fuel.

Oh OK, yeah I missed that point 😂 . I have driven the 1600 and they are real sluggish on the freeways, this is where the 2lt will shine for me. Also when I load it with sand, bricks, trees etc it will alot nicer to drive with that added power. The 1600 is just FLAT.

To fit the 2lt 8v isnt that much of a major job hey, 1 day and the motor is in sorted, then 1 day to wire and tune, easy stuff.

Why don't you drop a diesel in a corsa, then crank the fuel.

Have you driven a diesel Corsa, they are worse than the 1400 petrol...
