Fueling Fundi's

AAndrew.200SX13 Oct 2009, 10:50

Hi , I need some assistance / advice.

'92 S13 CA18DET , standard, apart from 76 mm freeflow and aftermarket air filter.

The car was running fine , but has now started to feel like it is holding back when boosting. When cold , it's not so bad , more predominent when warm. At first I thought maybe it was fuel starvation , but after +- 5000 rpm , she pulls like a freight train. If I keep my foot flat from pull off , through the gears , she goes past the stagger in every low rev range and then runs. I am wondering if it isn't over-fuelling, and if so , why and where can I start fiddling ?

Thanks

Check if you fuel pressure gos up when you rev her.

With the info given....normally fuel pressure or fuel pump....test that and go from there.

Also check youre spark plugs, and if you are losing spark...

I had a similar problem, with me the motor was loosing spark.

My money is on feulpump.

Thanks guys. I also suspect fuel. I have re-serviced the car , replacing plugs , filters , etc for just in case.

How will I check the fuel pressure ? Fuel pump ?

Get a gauge of sorts ?

not to sure if it is fuel pump cos i have the same problem when it cold cold i put foot flat and it feels like it wanna go backwards but then it all comes right and i have a walbro feul pump so i susspect the fpr as im going to replace mine soon

It feels as if the car is being held back and then as the revs climb , she takes off like a rocket !

just what i have so i know it not fuel pump as it new still not sparks as i tested coils and got new plugs i susspect the fpr so im going to change to a after market one i have no boost leaks and all systems have been checked i have not got any error codes and all ohms are spot on so im left with fpr

mayb someone else can direct us in a better direction

For what it's worth , I am going to clean up everything. If you have any joy with the FPR , then please let me know.

do you have a 8 port head. when i changed to that with my previous sx between 3000 and 4000 rpm it was like that.

buy a dictator, that will sort it out

stock regulator? check if it were bashed in to increase pressure, had the same problem on mine, some people think it'll make more power with higher pressure.

The car will make more power with higher pressure and I've seen this done and actually working but its not a good practice. Wanna increase your fuel pressure get a good pump and a decent adjustable FPR.

I am still trying to find the problem , without going through the expensive process of elimination. I have also noticed that she is running fine up to .5 bar boost and then between .5 and .8 is when the holding back is there. I have a feeling it is fuel related. The 1 injector is also still leaking. I got another injector from Faheem and bought all 4 new insulaters and o-rings from Nissan , but 2 or 3 days later the 1 injector starts to leak again.

If money wasn't an issue , I would start with new injectors , fuel pump and management. Which by the way brings up another question.... Diktator or Nistune ?

rratadmin15 Oct 2009, 07:47

if you plan to keep your current engine then nistune BUT to find someone to tune it also keeps all your std sensors

dicktator cheap and anyone can tune it but little loads sites to tune compared to the nistune system

CCharlvdw15 Oct 2009, 07:48

If you gonna run the same motor for a while go nistune.
For the record i can get you a walbro for R1200.

AAndrew.200SX15 Oct 2009, 07:58

PFB said that he will setup the Nistune for me gratis .

Walbro pump - brand new R1200 ? If so I will give you a shout when I am ready. I supose it is better to get anyway , imaterial of the problem that I have at the moment.

Hey guys , me again.

This car is really baffling me. When it is cold it runs semi ok , and when the heat guage rises it holds back.

This morning , I left the gym and a couple of trucks were holding me up, so I decided immaterial of the miss , boot it ! 3rd all the way up to 8000 , 4th 8000 no miss ! Check heat guage , it is still cold. 5 minutes later , boot it in 3rd , it starts holding back , look at the heat guage , it's halfway.

Why the hell would the car run fine occasionally. Surely if there is a fault it should be constant !

rratadmin21 Oct 2009, 07:57

that sounds like with the extra fuel when it is cold it boosts fine but when hot its too lean
