300zx Update

Alo Ha,

Did a complete rebuild on the Z. Thought Id update some Z fans here. Never imagined selecting rings and bearings for a car could be such a challenge. Because it is a race spec engine, you have to order individual bearings for each journal using numbers stamped all over the block. You have to put together some formular and contact NASA to decipher the crap before ordering. I tried measuring tolerances with a dial gauge and there were hardly any differences between sizes. Best of all, entire bottom end main caps are one piece. Got more confidence now to up the boost and sign up for the next Copenhagen get together.

Gas Flowed Heverythin...including the aircon ventilation ducts.🙂

New Stainless Steel tubular manifolds

Engine Detailing(orange battery gots to go)

Changed Instrumention Look
From This

To This

Some New Digial Instrumention(left) One Screen, Many gauges. I can even hook up a review camera
Swop Screens and Gauges with a click of a button

Solid Engine Mounts.

740cc Nismo Injectors.
More than enough for my kinda power and piece of mind.

Wideband AFR Conversion on both Banks with Analogue simulation.
Much more accurate and a lot more fuel efficient if you not killing the car.
Hook up laptop and car can produce its on map with targeted AFRs using some nice software

Tein Coilovers with electronic adjustment controller. 16 Way. Dropped the sucker low.

Clear Side Markers

Did a 35% Tint

Result:

Car feels much strong with same amount of boost and alot more torque and according to logs it running 12-15% cooler when pushing it hard. Think the gas flowing and the Wideband conversion played a major role. Still breaking in the engine with some cheap motor oil so cant really kill it or dyno.

Looks good. Paint the battery 😉 😀

Hey SuperBaas, very nice 300 you have there, what are the specs on your motor? Nice to see a 300 on this forum as I sold my 200sx recently and bought a 300zx which has been my realistic dream car for ages. I am in the process of rebuilding the motor which is basically stripped down atm and waiting for spares to arrive. I have gone for JE pistons and Eagle rods as I need to rebore and it was cheaper to go for piston/rod combo that only pistons. Where are you based?
Cheers

Thanks, im in JHB. Specs:

Engine
Stocks pistons and Rods. Believe me, no need to touch this motor if you not going above 650hp. The Bonneville speed record with a Z32 for a road going car was done with stock crank, rods and oversized stock pistons. 420kph Mr Veyron and the Record still stands.

Everything Flowed and Ported.

740cc Nismo Injectors

All uneccessary crap deleted and simplified

Turbos
GT28R

Nistune

Shit load of other small things.

nicely done - take your time and do it once!
The ZXx looks super mean from the rear...and that the way you mostly see it after flying past you!

DDracomoderator05 Jan 2010, 07:55

That looks good, the black more than anything....it's a beaut!!!!

lljS1405 Jan 2010, 09:53

VERY nice ride 😮
Would like to do something in the future with mine too but my father wont let me atm 🙄

What do you still want to do ?

SSuperBaas05 Jan 2010, 10:53

Still need to do the camber kit because of the drop. Tyres are getting chowed up. On its way.

Got the Split Downpipes. Need to install that.

Interior door pads and bits to be recovered. Seats already done.

Turn up the boost.

What make is that multi function gauge on the left hand side of the instrument cluster?, it seems like quite a useful one.

FFUEL PERFORMANCE09 Jan 2010, 15:02

Looking Awsome!! I must come past and have a look again.

SSuperBaas10 Jan 2010, 17:05

Thanks. Most welcome Duane. Gauge is PLX. Cost is around 6k imported with most sensor modules. I needed 2 wideband controllers because of the twin config, so it might be cheaper depending on the amount of sensors you want to monitor.

looks like trouble for the opposition - very evil, i like

Update:

Fitted specialityz super split downpipes and damn they make a huge diff on low down torque. This is no doubt the best mod i did on this Z. Makes the car so much fun to drive and the launch with racelogic is out of this world. I can build up 5 psi more boost off the line at the same RPM. I want to launch the car at every opportunity. Should have done this a long time ago!
If you have a T28 type flange..divorce the flange..you wont regret it!

RReeceZ27 Jan 2010, 01:24

interesting, any1 else tried this?

DDracomoderator27 Jan 2010, 07:33

Pink.....he also said it made a diff....

RReeceZ27 Jan 2010, 09:24

where'd you get them from superbaas

SSuperBaas18 Feb 2010, 19:42

bought a set for the Z. Good build quality, very soild. All installed. Ride for street settings is more than adequate and hard puts it on rails. I will still need to play with the settings.

SSuperBaas18 Feb 2010, 19:51

One more thing planned and worth looking out for...I am maxing out my maf at full 5volts at 5200+ rpm.....doing a dual maf setup with average output in the coming weeks...going with the selin setup ..dyno proven...easy 50hp without touching anything...

SSuperBaas21 Feb 2010, 14:43

Video
Mind the launch...a vw driver in his caddy shot the robot infront of me..thus the brakes.

This is on 0% slip on the TC and on a very mild fuel economy map.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qvsZn7t_aXs

ill get more vids with better launches
