Hi
This has been covered before with the below link 😉
http://200sx.za.net/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=4530&start=0

This wont give you much indication with cost but will tell you most of what you need hardware wise .

Cost will depend on what you have allready ie ecu, intercooler etc and of coarse LABOUR 🙁

RB25SX on this forum can do the swop for you with mountings, piping fitting but depending on what management you go for tuning will have to be sorted out ,We use Rudeboy (this Forum) to map for us , You either courier the car to PE of pay for him to come down to map(tune) for you ,Still cheaper then taking your car to a 'reputable' shop who will charge you a small fortune and not sort the map the car properly ,Believe me there is alot of guys on this forum unhappy with the CT shops work .
He road maps the car then fine tunes it on the dyno ,NOT the other way around 😉

Oh forgot to mention RAT is busy with this convertion at the moment ,PM him for an indication on how much he has spent so far 😉

RRB25SX01 Feb 2010, 09:41

Dont budget less than R35K min.

can you see how effective the backward nissan way of doing things really works.
my 5c... if you gonna go the rb route do it properly the first time round, its way cheaper, read ALL the post of who done this swop and educate yourself on what will go wrong at some point ,and try and avoid that, but wounce you tasted rb , sr is a thing of the past ( dont be ofended sr guys)

RReeceZ01 Feb 2010, 10:17

CA! Woooooooohooooooooooo

rratadmin01 Feb 2010, 11:06

RB conversion is farking expensive. R35k min to put in without the cost of the engine.

Depends on your power goals etc but there are alot of SR20's that make big numbers and parts are much cheaper, but the RB sounds awesome.

RReeceZ01 Feb 2010, 11:51

hang in there rat 😉

hey guys, thanks for the help and input, it just seems to be quite out of my budget, i think a strong SR20DET motor could be a much more viable option, what input do u guys have on this? does the s13 SR20DET use the same gearbox as the CA18 motor, or does it use a different one?5 or 6 speed?thanks guys

aads01 Feb 2010, 15:40

same box differant bell housing

lljS1401 Feb 2010, 16:07

Try get the SR20 motor and box together ,It(box) will be good up to 350 kw ,Over that it will break .
It is a better option and you can make big power with the sr motor if you willing to spend .

Correct me if im wrong but the stock SR internals can handle 220-250kw with bolt ons .

nnirvash01 Feb 2010, 18:34

thanks, any suggestions on what model Sr to look for, or blacktop/redtop/silvertop?idealy i would like to have about a 230kw motor, with good reliability, think the SR can deliver that?also, do you know who would be the best person to go tofor that swop in Cape town? also who is a reliable importer recomendation that some one has used before, i know of: turbo toys, boston jap tech, japan auto, ENGINE IMPORTS cc,jap-euro engine and gearbox supply, any of these?thanks again guys

aads01 Feb 2010, 20:13

ya,my sr20 is running 200kw on the wheels and 400nm
stock internals and stock injectors.

lljS1401 Feb 2010, 20:48

If thats on the wheels then im not that far out 😉

Mikes place in Epping has pretty much any engine you looking for ,Just take someone who knows what they looking at so you dont get ripped off ,It does happen unfortunately :x
Who ever you get to install it ask them if they mind coming with you to select one as they will know what to look for .
And at least if its a dud motor Mikes wont give you crap if the 'tuner' was with you in the beginning when you swop it back 😉

mmario_200sx01 Feb 2010, 22:19

Yip, 250 fly kw on stock internals is fine. Your injectors just wont last more than 220kw on the fly also a upgraded clutch will be needed.

Cooling also becomes a issue, so you will need to upgrade the intercooler. Stock intercooler is very poor, even for just a stock SR20 motor transplant.

Biggest thin is to try and stick with the stock management of the sr20 motor. Big hassle to get it wired up, ask Riekert! My tuner coudnlt get it right.

But if your planning future mods then stick with a local brand like dicktator or OBD (I think thats the name, RB25SX uses those systems, heard they are very good!)

If you want proper tuner doing your mapping, go to OPD. Theo that use to work at Goch and Cooper is there now (caual basis). Only person I would trust to do my mapping!

For doing the motor transplant, If I could do it again, I would do it myself! Its easy enough! Wiring and tunning use OPD (theo).

Thats my 2c.....if you have any Q's just ask.

nnirvash01 Feb 2010, 22:59

ya, will definitly go for a bigger FMIC setup, and will probly go for dicktator as well, also i dont know if i have the time, and secondly and more importantly the know how to do the swop well enough myself, i would definitly want some one like RB25sx to do sumthing like this, with this swop i would definitly want to go for the s14 blacktop SR20DET, just one question, because its from a s14 will it still be a straight in and out, like with the redtop sr, or will there have to be new mountings and the likes?any1 know?

The blacktop fitted allmost perfectly on the S13 stock mounts ,Riekert had to slot the motor mounts slightly to make it fit perfectly .That took us 2 hours to find that out 🙄 😂

nnirvash03 Feb 2010, 12:07

thanks, thats good to hear, makes things alot easier, any idea how much a s14 Blacktop+gearbox+ecu costs?any info on this SR conversion will be appreciated, keep it cumin guys!:)

FFUEL PERFORMANCE04 Feb 2010, 14:03

I think only now that there are a couple RB25DET Conversions done/busy being done have people really realised what it costs. You think R25K then that Becomes R30K and you look again and you Over R40K and thats when you do it yourself. Pay someone to do it and you will spend over R50K if you want something nice with decent parts..........and thats still stock internals!............

Mine is almost done and I have 2 Guys interested in Buying it and I havent even driven it yet !! We'll see....

vveecee04 Feb 2010, 15:36

if you want info on any of these engine swap, then google is your friend. this has all been covered a million times before...

but if you want info on local costs of parts and labour, then carry on asking here and you will get rough estimates, but for accurate (hmmm thats far too precise a word to use regarding engine conversions)... you will have to speak to your tuner/mecchie!

my sr20det install cost over 30k, and i (and some friends) did everything ourselves. thats a stock rebuilt motor, barely any bolt-ons too, gearbox, management, and ancillaries.

also - i was lucky enugh to score a redtop sr20det and rebuilt gearbox with brand new t28 for only 7k, so you do the maths!!! 😂 😂 😂
