Hi Everyone
Thank you so much for all of the help with the headgasket and waterpump!
This weekend i pulled my motor out to rebuild it from scratch.

My biggest surprise though was the turbo... its a TB28... ๐Ÿ˜€ ๐Ÿ˜€ ๐Ÿ˜€ ๐Ÿ˜€ ๐Ÿ˜€
But then came the bad news. Exhaust manifold has a huge crack in it! that needs replacing.
Im going to pull the head today. Then we will see in what condition the internals is in.

Thing about that turbo I got, when I bought the car it was boosting 0.7 bar.
Then I found this weekend the turbo was loose on the manifold, i could get a car key in between the turbo and the exhaust manifold and had just 2 nuts holding it on! and there is no gasket! Next thing. The exhaust manifold also had no gasket, and the bolts i could remove with my hands. Now my question. What would my car be able to boost with that turbo if everything was sorted? ๐Ÿ˜€

Here is my baby the day I got her...

Here is some pics of what happened the weekend, sorry about the quality of the images, it was taken from a phone!

eish...

Ive got a CA exhaust manifold for you.

and damn! just two bolts? not lekker

Well done, made good progress in a weekend

I just pulled the Head of now. There is definite oil and water mixture, but no break in the head gasket!?

but in any case, the head and the block goes in for reconditioning!
(as soon as the funds are there)

Thx rat, But i did all of that just the saterday Pulled the head now in my lunch break!

Very very bad carbon buildup!

Sleaves looks good, pistons looks good, now the big Q, Do i open up downunder or not? ๐Ÿ™„

And Riekert, Please get in contact with me, I want that manifold of yours, Pretty Please!

mmario_200sx16 Mar 2010, 08:09

My advise would be too pull off the sump and check the bearings. To be 100% sure I would take out the crank, send it in for polishing and replace the bearings with ACL race bearings. Bearing knocks on these CA18's happens allot...thats how my CA18 died!

Rather safe than sorry....I must say its nice seeing a CA18 in a S13 these days.....dont get them allot anymore! ๐Ÿ˜‚ ๐Ÿ˜‚

RRiekertadmin16 Mar 2010, 08:13

haha ya. like mario said... do the underside while your at it... don't be a idiot like me and just do the underside and not check the piston rings too... ๐Ÿ˜ณ ๐Ÿ˜ณ

PP3g4susmoderator16 Mar 2010, 10:53

IM going to do that yes, but just 1 problem... In my excitement to pull the motor, i forgot to drain the oil... so once i can make a plan there, i wil open the sump...

I have a special plan with my CA18. Watch this space...

mmario_200sx16 Mar 2010, 12:04

Is it a "Spar" or "Pick & Pay" special? ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

PP3g4susmoderator16 Mar 2010, 12:13

Nice one Mario! Luckly not, Just a idea a little links van die regering!

Everyone goes to RB and SR, was my initial idea as well, but changed my mind.. Mobnes Thats my inspiration, just maybe not that much ๐Ÿ˜›

Oky, so the whole motor is open, almost everything is getting replaced!

Here is a initial list of parts and work that needs to be done:

ACL bearings all round;
Eagle conrods;
Airias Pistons;
Crank balancing;
block reingeneering;
cometic headgasket;
head skimming & reconditioning & gasflow(maybe, maybe not);
Arp bolts;
Upside down exhaust manifold;
complete gasket set,(still deciding if i am going to do a original Nissan, or Payen);
New oil and water pump;
Still searching for a aftermarket intake manifold;
still deciding on throttle body
electric radiator fan;
bigger radiator;
nistune daughter board(type 1);
650 cc injectors;
aftermarket fuel rail from Mr turbo;
new cam pullies;
still deciding on what degrees for the intake cam;
stainless steel boost pipes;
aftermarket fuel pump;
fuel pressure regulator;
front mounted intercooler(550X230X65);
oil cooler;
aftermarket wastegate and dump valve( still deciding on type, make, ext);
Boost controller;
Turbo timer;
Heat wrap the manifold and down pipe;

Its a long build, about 6 months, so wil be putting on parts when the funds are there! will post pictures as i get the parts!

After the motor is done, then i can start on the rest of the car!

Comments on the parts is welcome!

DDriftZ07 Apr 2010, 11:33

nice. Just check, i was told not to wrap my manifold, but from the downpipe out you can wrap up.

PP3g4susmoderator07 Apr 2010, 11:41

Thx driftz, will do so then!

NNIZAN-R07 Apr 2010, 11:46

๐Ÿ˜ˆ you wont be disapointed with the nistune value for money and eas of tuning.
That list is good all that You must get is z32 afm to finish it of.keep the CA18 alive

PP3g4susmoderator07 Apr 2010, 11:51

Thx Nizan-R, I am doing just that, want to see what power I can get from the CA18!

I was wondering about the AFM, so thx, now i know, But wil it work for about 450whp?

rratadmin07 Apr 2010, 11:54

Airias Pistons;

I have heard a lot of people not happy with them.

PP3g4susmoderator07 Apr 2010, 11:57

Thx Rat, Do you know why?
And what would you recommend?

GGuy07 Apr 2010, 12:11

I got CP pistons, a custom compression ratio though, absolutely beautiful but the order took ages through frsport.

As far as I know eagle don't do ca18 rods. I bought the spool imports rods.

PP3g4susmoderator07 Apr 2010, 12:16

Well, thats one of my problems, I dont want to chance the compression ratio too much! Can make a plan though! Well I got a quote for eagle conrods for the CA18? Hopefully its the correct ones!

so far I have never had after-market pistons in any of my cars.

CP seem about the best. Airias become very noisy until they are at running temp.
