looks as if somebody tried to connect a bigger FPR.......interesting, but it doesn't look connected.

HHennie Marais08 Mar 2007, 12:14

Difficult to say with the pic, Might be some sort of vacuumcan or regulator

vveecee08 Mar 2007, 12:17

south africa wasn't supposed to get the charcoal canister - and i dont know what it looks like, 'cos i always ignore that part of the FSM.

is that not the charcoal canister?

DDracomoderator08 Mar 2007, 12:18

It is connected, the pic was taken with a cell...

DDracomoderator08 Mar 2007, 12:20

What does a vacuum can and a charcoal canastar do?

DDracomoderator08 Mar 2007, 12:28

I can't really see but it looks like it goes to the power transistor

vveecee08 Mar 2007, 12:52

charcoal canister has something to do with emissions!!!

DDanielmoderator08 Mar 2007, 13:59

Its that thingy you get to controll the butterflies on the Inlet manifold on a jap spec head!

i Know coz iv'e now got one. Just leave it disconnected. our cars didnt come with the solinoid or the functionality on the ECU to controll it.

DDracomoderator08 Mar 2007, 14:13

It is currently connected, always was......if I disconnect it won't it screw up something?

vveecee08 Mar 2007, 14:14

here's my advice:

now you know what it is.
you also know that its useless.

and here's the best part:

now you can rip it out, and throw it away.

ask freddie what my engine bay is missing. and my CA still runs occasionally!!!!

DDracomoderator08 Mar 2007, 14:16

I don't know why but the "occationally" thing bothers me....

PPhinx08 Mar 2007, 14:27

Damn that means you have the 8 port head.
To my understanding (I will confirm) disconnected mean the butterflies remain closed.

But if it came like that from the factory they could have removed the butterflies plates

DDracomoderator08 Mar 2007, 14:29

This means?

vveecee08 Mar 2007, 14:32

my ford tracer 1300 also had that stupid 8 port stuff.

i ripped it out quickly!!! made no difference other than having way more responsiveness from the engine.

but then again - it could've been the weber 36dcd that also made it more responsive. or did that give it more power.

hmmm...

i'm confussing myselves now!

just take it out draco!!! your 8 butterflies i mean!!!!

DDanielmoderator08 Mar 2007, 15:10

Disconnected means its always open. Pretty much like they arent even there.

Its not so easy to 'just take them out'. Maby if you had the engine out and are stripping it anyway!
