New to nissan...

Hi guys..
First of all i would like to say great forum!
Ok so this is wat this is all about!
I just recently got me a 200sx s13 its still has the standard motor in but its got a few problems! so iv done some research and have seen guys fitting a 1jz toyota motor into the car!

what i would like to know is..
1. Is it worth it to fit the 1jz as this is what i can afford
2. Is there a big power diff?
3. Will the original gearbox, diff and all the other stuff work together?
4. Did i buy the right car to drift with and maybe a little drag racing?

Thanks guys!

Hey man welcome to the forum
In my personal opinion i would rather go RB25 than a 1JZ they cost about the same but it at least still carries the Nissan badge and it would be cheaper to put the Nissan motor in than the Toyota one, because the intake plenum is on the opposite side of the engine than with the Nissan one.
And to answer your question yes there will be a power difference the standard CA18DET produces 124kw at the fly and the RB25DET produces 169kw at the fly.
Another route you can take is to get a SR20DET motor which has 147kw

rb25 makes 198kw at the fly

Be different.

Run a 2JZ with nas

hey guys thanks for the quick replys..
ok so if u guys say the rb25det is the same price then im taking it to be in the R6000-R8000 bracket?
what about the gearbox stuff will it stay the same?

DDanielmoderator10 May 2010, 14:42

Not sure what and where the cheapest price is. But saw RB25DET's at Engine Den for R9.5k. Didn't look at gearbox prices since I was actually looking for a SR

lol at the jayZ post!
ok so the motor we looking at 10000 wich is out of my budget already... i was looking at 7k for a engine and dont forget im planing on starting the sport of drifting!
my golf is not enough for me anymore! need a turbo..

if you want to build a s13 drift car go to asmdrifting.co.za and talk to adam.

DDanielmoderator10 May 2010, 15:03

Lets assume you could get both a RB and box for under 10k. Your still looking at way more than that all'n all to get it up and running.

ggodzilla10 May 2010, 15:03

hey search this site first and see what the guys that have done this swop have spent.buying the motor is not the problem getting it in and running there is were the budget gets blown to hell.a Rb25 fatbox( you want the fat one) is round about 6k minimum. plus your motror lets say 8.5k, now non of your old stuff from the CA will work .You will need managment, intercooler, piping etc getting someone(reliable) to fit it for you.if you gonna go the 2jz its probaly the morepowerful motor but you will still need a new box.supra box are k@k dier, and scarse but you can use a cheaper 21R box with a matching bell houseing , be prepared to pay more for the bell housing than the 21R. your prop willneed to be modified to adapt either way .remember this is all just the stuff you have to buy, never mind still the stuff that will make the install better, like changing cambelt, oilpump, water pump and the rb pumps dont come cheap but the 2jz stuff can be had over the counter at toyota probably for cheaper.make a list (a long one) at what you think you need and get some prices,it will quickly blow you mind.....dont be deterd a 6potter in a sx always a good idea but be prepared. owe and now you gonna have some more waight in the front a set of coilovers will help and them pupies go for around 8.5k (on this fourum BCcoilovers)good luck mate keep us informed and post some pics

ggodzilla10 May 2010, 15:10

owe i have my rb motor and box siting for about a year now, its going in my hardbody, but at the mo its just a moorse paperweight taking up space, no time and money to go further........

VVegetaSSJ410 May 2010, 15:55

If you are looking to put either a RB25 or a 1JZ in the car you are going to look at more than R10k because you have to buy the engine & gearbox, engine mounts, front cross member, ecu then you have to get the wiring sorted out propshaft checked if it will still work exhaust has to be modded to fit and your clocks need to be calibrated.

Don't take me wrong i am not saying give up what what you can mod your current CA18 and get 200kw from it maybe even more if you have more cash to spend

sshazaad10 May 2010, 16:15

wait guys i think u getting me wrong here!! my budget is 6-8k on engine alone! what i am asking is will the new 1jz or rb25 fit to the old gearbox? i dont mind spending up to 25k on this car coz i paid 18k!

if you want to start drifting then fix your ca motor, unless its completly stuffed.and get the car on the track, you can worry about power later.
rather spend your money on tires and practice....

Best advise i have heard in a long time 8)

Some good advise i can give you is this : Buy a completed car 😉
You can pick up a S14/S13 with a RB25 installed and setup for the most R120K The cost of building one is far greater in costs ,ask anyone who has done it , I know of 2 S14 for sale with a RB30 (RB25SX)and RB25(myself) in the next month or two .You will save a small fortune 😉

sshazaad11 May 2010, 09:42

awe maybe i should do that but my only problem is the motor got messed and the guys fixed it... but i dont have trust in this fixed motor it shorts some coils and stuff...

SO is the CA18dett strong enough to DRIFT with?

ggodzilla11 May 2010, 09:54

if you starting out on the drift scene, keep the CA.itsprobably the better option to learn and practice on.there are many guys who drifted there sx's with the CA and were doing well. when you become a drift masta then u want more to get that 130km/h+ entry speed,(hahahah)then you can look at more power.believe me,you dont want to break an RB practicing .......rather spend alittle bit on what you have .
