Smt6 or Unichip?

RRiekertadmin05 Aug 2010, 15:48

This is for a CA18DET with GT28 Turbo,

wanna keep the stock ECU.

which one is best?

and no I don't want to use nistune. πŸ˜›

What other mods do you have?

There is a guy here who sells generic chips for certain setups/stages and they are top notch for lower budgets.

http://www.h-dev.co.uk/index.php?cPath=78_169_382_387_388&osCsid=5b84c049b93f3a4b62af51d8d6495b47

Easy to fit to the stock ECU.

Check out Each stage, they have a list of modifications that are required for the chip.

I've used all 3 stages on various s13's in the past and can't fault them! He's a very trusted mapper here who knows what he is doing.

RRiekertadmin05 Aug 2010, 16:43

mmm... not bad.

Gonna be close to R1500 for the setup though...

So rather go for the Unichip at R2800 all in...

Oh and the modlist is:
GT28RS
63mm Exhaust
Cone filter
Stock motor ect.

ddjtreble05 Aug 2010, 16:44

Dont know much about unichip.
Is the R2800 including custom mapping for your car, or do you map it yourself?

includes custom mapping πŸ™‚

ddjtreble05 Aug 2010, 16:55

Yeah that sounds good.

Maybe I should look into mapping unichips instead of diktator based purely on cost.
Who does the mapping?

RRiekertadmin05 Aug 2010, 16:59

mmm... could be good!

Well the company's name is Mace - in Tokai.

Got a nice dyno etc. but ja costwise if would be good πŸ™‚

Hey Riekert,

I am running the SMT6 In my CA 18 with a T28, works well phone me if you need any information!!

Cheers Craig

RRiekertadmin08 Aug 2010, 17:46

Hey man!

And hows the fuel consumption with the mods? cuase I've heard unichip doesn't do well with consumption...

ok... i'm still indecisive actually... don't want to shell out R2800 and get the unichip, then be disapointed in the long run... read a few bad things about unichip...

so not sure... πŸ™ need to get it sorted quite fast... so wanna know what I should do... please...

oh the unichip will be installed by mace, whereas the SMT-6 will be done by me...

WWicked09 Aug 2010, 09:14

Hi,

I get about 300 on a tank if i drive like the devil, but generally i get between 350 and 400 odd km on a tank, not great consumption but if you want power you need to add fuel.

I could lean it out a bit but i need a on board AFM gauge to be able to do that.

The installation is pretty basic couple of wire and you are ready to go, I can forward you my map for a start until you get it dyno tuned.....

awesome! the map would be a great help thanx! Now just to find someone who actually tunes the thing. hehe, oh you don't perhaps know where I can find a install manual fir the CA?

mmario_200sx09 Aug 2010, 16:52

Riekert, speak to Dynotec and Goch and Cooper. Im sure they will be able to help you.

I dont have experience with mace, but I do kow they work on some hig end cars (bmw, mercs, 350Z's).

RRiekertadmin09 Aug 2010, 18:50

thanx mario, will call them tomorrow.

RRiekertadmin10 Aug 2010, 14:01

Ok... so I phoned 3 diff places, none of them wants to install the SMT6, they can tune but not install. Now I've thought it over and came to the conclusion that we should just do the Uni-Q chip.

Its just gonna be easier as I don't need to worry about the install... and if something goes wrong I can just take it back to Mace and tune them. hehehe.

So ja... will post up some specs ect when its been installed on thursday πŸ™‚

WWicked10 Aug 2010, 16:17

Its a good call, if you have a problem it’s going to be difficult to sort out. Good luck..

JJason20016 Aug 2010, 19:37

How did the install go?
Interested to see the results!

RRiekertadmin16 Aug 2010, 21:58

Hey man, We took it to mace. didn't get it installed though as She needed a new fuelpump.

so doing it next month only.

but the SX was pushing good power for the mods though... doing 150kw 280nm. with a stuffed fuel pump.

PPOWDER20 Aug 2010, 19:45

Uni-Q - Will not advise, it has not got a MAP sensor, it uses what ever your car already has, which in your case Riekert, is a MAF. My best mate has one on his Opel Coupe Turbo and is having endless problems, even he is thinking of swapping over to somthing else. Other than the MAP/MAF issue though he has lost settings twice and had to re-dyno.

Spitroniks - Very small system, have not heard good or bad about it, just hear the after sales support aint to great. Buy one unit and you can set it to be used on either standard or wasted spark or on 60-2 or even 30-2, as you prefer all in one little unit.

Gotech - Have not heard a good thing about it, refraining from commentary. All my friends who have had this have had issues, they now on Dicktator or Mr. Turbo EFI, also tends to loose settings from what I hear.

Dicktator - Once you get past the terrible after sales support, and figure out where your going wrong with your install, It's definately not a bad system.

Mr. Turbo EFI - Have heard nothing but Great commentary about this one. If I had a choice to do it all over again, I would definitely try it out.

Hey Riekert

I had a UniQ fitted & Tuned at Mace couple months ago...no problems with it!
idles a liiiiittle rough but no biggy!

I have a 63mm Zorst and A walbro which they fitted. Stock(rebuilt) turbo and no conefilter.

I get +-450km off a tank...141kw 256nm
