z32 brake upgrade

nnirvash09 Oct 2010, 21:24

hey guys

want to do the z32 brake upgrade with the 4pot front, 2pot rear calipers.

just wanted to know what i will need for the upgrade?

calipers
disks
pads

then i'm not sure, will i have to get:

new brake lines (and must they be z32 brake lines or 200sx ones?)
brake master cylinder, will i have to upgrade to the z32 one?
will i need the z32 e brake assembly and lines

anything else?

thanks

calipers f+r
rotors f+r
pads f+r
.
if you have a bm44 brake master it wil work for upgrade bm50 is better peddal feel and response
.
brake lines are good upgrade helps with peddal feel and response
.
if you have drum hand brake like most sa sx's its the same as z32/r32 no need to change.
.
5 stud conversion?if not you can dril the rotors to 4 stud

thanks man

appreciate the help

heard really good things about this brake upgrade, have youve done it to your sx right? your opinion on it?

nnirvash10 Oct 2010, 14:17

had a look at my brake master cylinder earlier to try find out if it is a bm44 but it doesnt say or anything on it, how can i tell which one ive got?

I did the conversion also-still got stock BMC which is 16/17,I need the 1 1/16 that the Zx came out with.
Pedal feel is good with SS lines-stock lines won't work.
Front rotors is very difficult to find if you not going bigger than S14 .
a set of floating rotors will be about 6K plus 1.5 K for the offset bracket
if you can't do it yourself.

I have a set of front calipers available-3K.
Rebuild kits also-R450
the rears is already sold -but can sourch some if you need.

If you add up the conversion it will be
Calipers 5K
rotors 4K
SS lines 1.5K
Yellow stuff 2.5K
Ate racing brake fluid-R300
Rebuild kits R900
Respray calipers -R500
ZX BMC- R1500.

So it will quickly add up to a set of wilwood calipers and rotors in my opinion.
It is totally worth it when you feel the difference though in stopping power compared to stock, and looks ofcourse.

thanks for the info n1smo

already sourced some F+R z32 calipers on ebay, just looking around at prices and so on for all the other bits

how does it feel using the stock BMC?

SSkylinefreak10 Oct 2010, 18:14

Holy crap Nismo where do you get your prices from? I'm doing S14 front brakes into a R31 Skyline. Costs to date:

S14 front calipers and discs R3k
Paint calipers R100
Redrill discs to 4 stud R240
Caliper brackets and new bolts R820
EBC Yellowstuff pads R950
Machine hubs & new bearings R650.

Nice not bad dude!

Where you getting the rebuild kit? as I need one too...

nn1smo200sx10 Oct 2010, 19:29

Its for front and rear rebuild kits and brakepads.
When those calipers land you going to pay at least 1K import duties.
And Im talking everything new except the calipers, not 2nd hand stuff.
Also crossdrilled rotors,not OEM.
Riekert please tell me where you going to find 4 rotors plus shipping for 2K,I need a set also!

The pedal gets a bit long after a few laps, but normal driving you don't really notice it.

In my opinion the best upgrade is a set of 350Z brembo's and the stock discs. The are a bolt on fit and way bigger than the puny S14 front discs.
S14 brakes and rotors look pathetic with 18" wheels on your car.
Also 350Z pads are R500 cheaper than S14 Yellow stuff from dealers in Jhb.

Nice find there. I'm still looking for disc's for my Z32 calipers.

couldn't say how good they are however

nnirvash10 Oct 2010, 19:47

but with the warranty and price i think i mite put them to the test to find out 😕

donno? was just talking about the rebuild kit... thought that would cast more to the R800 mark.

ebay, 29$ for the kit then 15$ shipping to S.A
all nissan oem parts (or so it says)

thats for both front calipers

are you runnig z32's just up front?
also if i order a kit should i just order 2 then?

mmm... when you ordering... will only be able to take a set at the end of the month.

nnirvash10 Oct 2010, 19:58

probly tomorow....

nn1smo200sx10 Oct 2010, 21:01

You only need 1 kit for both front calipers.
I imported when the $ was bad so paid nearly R500 for a kit.
Remember the front discs on a Zx is smaller than the rears-looks a bit funny
when you do it that way.
front is onlt 280mm and rears 297mm.
that price is very good for the rotors, but usually you get what you pay for on e-bay.
there is a kit where you get 350Z rotors with a adaptor like this
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/300ZX-Z32-30MM-BRAKE-BRACKET-ADAPTER-12-75-350Z-ROTOR-/200527723115?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item2eb0623a6b
that means 325mm fronts and 297mm rears which will look way better.
17" wheels will stil fit with minimal clearance.
I have 330mm floating rotors and 17" still fit on the front.

nnirvash10 Oct 2010, 21:33

ya, i was talking about getting a kit for riekert as well if he needed.

cant seem to find a rear caliper rebuild kit...

how are the z32 calipers with wheel clearance, you think they should be fine with these 17's?

SSkylinefreak10 Oct 2010, 21:51

There should be plenty of space behind those wheels for the 4-piston calipers. Especially if they are +35 offset or less.

nn1smo200sx11 Oct 2010, 10:35

Zx came out with 16" rims, they will be fine if offset is 35 or less yes.
