Need help with 200 sx 18t

SSaiteck20 Dec 2010, 14:59

Hi guys I’m new on the form so I hope I posted in the right place

I have a question and wonder if any one can help me out

I have a 200 sx 18t 1996 I think it’s a s13

I have had a never ending turbo problem in the last month. I went through 3 turbo’s and they just keep ceasing. My mechanic cant seem to find the prob so I have decided to buy a non turbo engine

But im not sure what I can use. I was thinking of a STI 200 motor; will it work?

Or what other option do I have?

Thanx

what hapens to the turbos do they lock up or start smoking?was it new turbos?

SSaiteck20 Dec 2010, 16:00

1 turbo was reconditioned, the other tow where new ons’s apparently they cease of oil starvation but my mechanic replaces all pipes and feeds leading to the turbo but still same prob

NNIZAN-R20 Dec 2010, 16:39

did he replace oil lines with new braided lines coz thats a comon problem

SSaiteck20 Dec 2010, 17:43

Called him just to make sure and he did replace with new braided lines

Just don’t know what the prob is.

That’s way I was thinking of just putting in another engine.

Cant see how that will make too big of a difference? What about the mechanic? If he is the result of 3 turbo's... I would get someone else to do your car for you, maybe he is not meant to work on an SX, Motor transplants goes for about R50k, Except for the SR of course. which is still not a cheap conversion.

Just my 2c.

Well maybe last resource would be to take it to Nissan work shop.

But would love to drop a 200 STI motor in there just don’t know if it’s possible

STI motor being FWD and SX RWD

Has something like this been dun be for?

(I can get the motor for 9000)

I had my motor rebuilt when the crank buggerd out. I had a new oil pump fitted my turbo went said I had oil starv but that wasn't the case best thing is get a 2nd opinion and speek to guys who deal with turbos and see what they say couz it sounds wierd that u can have an oil starv but your motors bearings don't cock out

Well maybe Nissan work shop is the way to go .

Not possible, but maybe you are thinking of the SR20DET motor, that came in the S14?

Nissan Stealership is going o cost you probably more than you paid for the car! 😈 😈 😈

200sti engine wont go in!!! you need the SR20 RWD

PPOWDER20 Dec 2010, 22:25

Hey bud, firstly, welcome to the forum...

Secondly, re-check ur mach like Peg says....

Thirdly, make sure there is no blockage on any of the oil feed lines and ports coming from your motor, might be buildup restricting flow, anything will take the easy route rather....

Fourth, once you go turbo, there is no going back, especially if your mach knows his stuff....

Fifth, SR20 all to possible but as stated, needs to be DET not just a plain DE, otherwise just take off your turbo, go buy round top pistons for R500 and vuala, standard CA18DE.... And will cost you a crap load less. SR20 det transplant has cost me over 50k already.....

Just get yours running nice and rebuilt, then put 50k into the CA, u'll do much better that way and less stress hahah

NNIZAN-R21 Dec 2010, 03:42

another thing is the return oil to the sump if that is blocked with shit its olso gona die every time

3300sx21 Dec 2010, 10:55

your problem definitly is a kak mechie.. i mean ca18's come from the factory with turbo's lasting 100k and more at least.

so now just because he cant find the problem and keep blowing turbo's the ca18 is a kak motor?? fraking rediculous, id make him pay for the turbo's..
