BOV Placement.

There is alot of debate about where the dump valve should be fitted but none have a clear cut answer. Should I fit it before the FMIC or after?? Currently I have it before the cooler and its working fine, just want to know if its in the best position.

Now this is my oppinion, If its before the IC then you are vented hot air prevent further heat soak in the IC. If you put it after the cooler you are venting air which has just been cooled (no point in that) and further heating up the IC.

Next thing is where on the respected pipe should it be?? Should It be close to the turbo/TB or close to the IC??

wwidowmaker07 May 2007, 16:20

nooo you silly dummy! you should mount it onto the pipe! not just anywhere!

GGary5707 May 2007, 16:22

Ja but which pipe??

TThe Calibrator07 May 2007, 17:30

IMHO
If you place it before the cooler all the air in the cooler and plumbing gets vented and when you get on the gas the intercooler etc has to be pressurised before you see any boost.

Place it as close to the TB as you can the turbo keeps spinning and you dont lose a whole intercoolers worth of air.

The stock location is a good one.

Agree with Duane

here is the location of mine

I chose that spot since its out of the way...

I think the only reason why its popular to mount the BOV on the hot pipe in some countries is because you buy the whole pipe and BOV as a kit, ours have rubber at the intake so that doesn't suffice...

'cept for a dude i saw recently who tried a BOV install on that rubber pipe with some insulation tape and cable ties. needless to say he was plagued by boost leak!

damn - why is it that drifters love cable ties???

vveecee08 May 2007, 07:56

oh and while we are on the subject...

i have a nice little (well its quite large actually) BOV lying on my shelf in the garage, instead of installed in the car.

anyone want to help a broke-ass-brutha out and weld it to my steel hot pipe for me???

VVladeadmin08 May 2007, 09:25

I had mine silver soldered for a coke 😀

GGary5708 May 2007, 09:27

I will be milling a hole in the piping and TIG welding it back on 😂 .

Next I want to make the top radiator hose out for stainless, again Ill TIG weld it on.

vveecee08 May 2007, 09:29

why dont you bring that tig welder and your talent up here to jozi???

and vlade, scuse my ignoraance, but silver solder??? and do you mean cocacola, or cocaine, cos the latter is expensive!!!

GGary5708 May 2007, 09:32

HAHA ja I love that TIG welding, Iam getting to be a pro at it with stainless. Never tried Aluminum.

VVladeadmin08 May 2007, 09:36

Silver solder - basically braced, works like soldering with electronics but much tougher stuff, they fix damage to hydraulic cylinders with it so you can imagine it can handle lekker pressure... it was a Bottle of Coca-Cola 😈

I saw ChemCool also had his meth injection silver soldered...

Putting it on the cold pipe goes against everything I have read.

vveecee08 May 2007, 09:38

please tell me where, so i can go buy a 2 litre bottle, and pull in.

and the bov will obviously be placed before the cooler, for convenience reasons. (yes i hate it like that).

Seems Mr AG Bell says similar things to Gary. I think I will test it on Mr Erro Sennins car 🙂

yes, get back to work 😂 😂 😂

Great book 😂 .

You see this is the problem everyone on these forums say put it after the IC but the experts say put it before. Personally I am more inclined to listening to the experts.

Mine is before the cooler now and all is well. Although I do hear a flutter if I tap off and the car wasnt boosting yet. Not sure if I should pull the shim out of the BOV, will make it blow at a lower pressure.

thats it then, as soon as i've finished reading all this fancy literature, i will take a coke along to vlades drug buddy, and have my bov installed before the cooler. its convenient that way too. i dont have to have a complicated pipe with different ID's at either end and an S-shape curve made to order. that sounded expensive anyway!
