Suspension Options

VVladeadmin08 May 2007, 09:14

Been wondering about suspension options as this is the next planned thing for the car (will start saving up once i've settled my bill with The Calibrator 8) )

Now there are various options out there

* D2

* K-Sport - exact same stuff as D2 just branded differently as K-Sport in the US

* Stance - GR+ What i'm currently looking at, rated better than K-Sport http://www.stance-usa.com/

* Tein - Flex / Super Drift

* Tanabe - Got a new affordable Sustec Pro 5 looks good, would love to have a pair of Sustec Pro 7's

* Silkroad

* Megan Racing

* Cusco

* JIC

* Nex

* Kei Office - My first choice - but very expensive

* Buddy Club

* Apexi

* HKS Hipermax D

* Greddy

* GAB

* D-Max

* MF-R

i dig those white springs on the D-max, but thats obviously not a deciding factor.

1. costs are all important

2. servicing is also important. what is available in SA i.t.o. servicing. isnt it D2 (rezlo) and Tein (jerry)?

VVladeadmin08 May 2007, 09:23

basically those are your options on servicing...

But when I was looking into the Stance ones, guys haven't complained about blown shocks only when they were developing the stuff, unlike D2 and K-Sport who has regular blow outs (I'm just mentioning what I've read on nicoclub.com)

So yeah I'll rather put in a $100 or two into a thing if I know it will last

GGary5708 May 2007, 09:25

What are the prices of those kits??

VVladeadmin08 May 2007, 09:29

Will get to that soon they start from $700 to $1700

PM me if you want it cheaper 😉 .

I use D2! I am a dealer for them in SA along with Rezlo! I'll be honest - difficult to setup but once there, the car is awesome and damn strong. Obviously Tein is a good choice but I still think its cheaper for me to run on D2's and have the extended cover than run on almost twice the price Tein's!

ps:- I put this on the following cars already with more to come

Mazda Rx7 series 4 x 2
Mazda RX-7 series 4 left hand drive
Nissan 200sx S14 x1

These guys have had a huge improvement on drifting, please, next time you see there cars have a look at the kits and decide for yourself - ask them questions

Most of those suspensions are good options, problem is, being here in SA what you need is to find one that can get serviced and parts are pretty easy to get your hands on....I got Type HE Tein coilovers, which i have just now replaced with Superdrift and EDFC....anything is available, price is relative to all the others....with D2, they tend to give real shit apparently....dont buy cheap, just buy once

makes sense

does that mean that you might have the HE's available to sell to one of us poverty stricken s13 owners???

cos i might be interested!

jjap spec07 Jun 2007, 14:50

Sold teh HE's to a buddy here....Got 8k for them... I know everyone has there ideas on suspension, but the bottom line is, anything for drifting is better than stock....even cutting the springs.......When i changed to the HE's, it was night and day....entry speeds change, angle and traction

VVladeadmin08 Jun 2007, 07:23

Agreed... but you don't want to spend R6K on coil overs only to end up blowing them 5000km later :200sx_oops: Especially with our wonderful roads that we have here....

So yeah I'd say rather go big go named brand or go home, keep the stock stuff for now till one can afford the decent stuff...

GGary5708 Jun 2007, 08:39

It would break my heart to spend R6000 on coilovers 😢 .

vveecee08 Jun 2007, 08:42

anyone with opinions on tein street basic dampers???

i would be using them on the track and the street - mine is not a pure track car.

i would also like to do the RB25 mod in the next year, how would they do with the extra weight up front???

also - are they serviceable in SA?
and if i wanted to, could i get a stiffer set of springs later?
and change the damping rates of hte shocks???

wow, a lot of questions from me hey!

VVladeadmin08 Jun 2007, 09:14

I'd rather not ask on the SA forums since no one here really has that much experience with Tein products, I'd rather get feedback from 20 guys than maybe 1... Its a lot of doe for coil overs.

jjap spec08 Jun 2007, 10:23

On the suspension side of things i think i ca n answer your questions, having 3 years experience with Tein coilovers, and having 3 sets and different types... Anyway...to answe the first question, basic tein suspension doesnt come with a pillowball joint top plate which means you cannot adjust camber settings...On a drift or track car, the minimum setting needed....for high speed drifting to gain traction is 2.5 negetive...thats the first problem....Second is that they dont come with damping either, which mean that you cant adjust the stiffness at all.....what you can do adjust the ride height though....As a daily driver it will be perfect and cornering will imporve ten fold as teh spring rates supplied allow for a soft drive, but under load, in cornering, stiffen much more than that of the standard....obviously the body roll is less due to the ride height aswell....aslo, because you can set the ride height, means you have the slight option of making the 'spring rate' softer or harder....On a coilover set up you can put the spring under load before the cars weight is on it, therefore changing stiffness....
A super street set up is the best option Tein wise...there are 3 differnt types i think....the 3rd and most expensive is the best option....I have this suspension in an S14....campber slots, damping, and ride height...car handles well, and i can set it up for daily and change camber for track....

Serving is not done in SA, but if you buy the suspension from teh agants here, they can send it back to the factory in Japan on your behalf is there are any problems....

Stiffer springs are available for the coilovers....you choose the spring rates and they send them over....Apparently eibach now make coilover springs for the s13 and s14....which means that they got in stock....the both about the same price...2500 for springs...

whare can i get a decent set of lowering kit for the s14 for not tooooo much?
