S14 In a Pickle ...

sshiraazz15 Jun 2011, 16:24

I just found out that I rather replace the engine on my S14 auto. I have been calling around and found a blacktop without VTC (R 9000), is this the right engine, or is that the S13 version?

rratadmin15 Jun 2011, 16:52

yes s13 SR20

RRiekertadmin15 Jun 2011, 16:58

That is correct.

The One with VTC is the S14 SR.

So what engine should I fit? I think I got a quote for 14k for the S14, is there any other engine that i can fit without changing the tranny?

U can fit any sr but best stick with s14 one for the ecu and piping

sshiraazz15 Jun 2011, 18:38

I will have to get new pipes and ECU if i go with s13? and will the s14 turbo fit on the s13 engine IF i decide to go that route?

ppoizenmoderator15 Jun 2011, 18:53

No not really just s13 has a diff intake and the s14 has vvt but it should all work and yes turbo will fit

sshiraazz15 Jun 2011, 19:19

Oh I see. Im starting to think the vtc is not worth the 5k extra, whats your take? Is it the VTC giving the S14 more power than the s13 or is it just the turbo thats the bigger factor?

both~!!! and it worth that extra 5k believe me

The sr from the s13 also runs a smaller turbo and has a few different pipes, especially the intake. It also runs a different ecu, wiring and has no nats.

The s13 sr engine fits to the s14 box and engine mounts just fine but the vvt from the s14 sr makes a very nice difference mid range.

Also why you changing the motor?

Isn't it a SR20DET ?

pphoenix s1417 Jun 2011, 12:42

Also the S14 head is a low port SR (intake ports completely vertical) and the others are high port heads (intake ports are I think @ 30Deg upwards and much longer).

The VCT head flows much better as stock and when moddified also flows better.

My mechanic is meeting with someone from a drifting club who deals with these cars, he claims that they can use another nissan engine (STI / Primera or something) instead, because they are stronger, firstly can it be done, and secondly, if so, am I going to be happy ????

rratadmin17 Jun 2011, 16:43

thats a fwd SR20DE

i would change machie

The previous owner f***** the current one up, it lost oil one time I drove it to JHB and back to PTA. According to the mechanic someone tried using the incorrect block with the head or something to that affect

The FWD can be put in the s-body, they even sell the kit in the USA for it. The vvl head is a much more reliable one (less moving parts) but the costs involved in the swap far outweighs the rewards. The major obstical is the dizzy position.

If you need to talk to someone, speak to someone who specialises in these cars.

PS. waste of time putting a SR20DE in there, just find a notch top RWD SR and stop messing about with different versions unless you have a very good reason for going for a different version.

I rather have my car they way it should be. If that guy says I should put another engine in ..... :200sx_2guns: this mechanic is peeving me off

rebuild your engine could be another good option if you know someone good that get the job done right^^
