so yesterday i drove it for the first time after last friday, drove for about 15kms under boost, to heat it up abit

then i floored in 5th gear to 180kms, left the accelerator and droped to 120 accelerated alittle a there it was again BLOWN

this morning i started i and it sound like a truck, drove it to work
and now im in shit. ive wasted almost 2 grands and its still not working,

Get yourself Aluminium sheet 1mm shoud do the trick and cut your own gaskets

My brother's sx did the same .. atleast once wa week ! .. after we slaped on the aluminium it never had a problem ! .. running for about 2mounth now ! ..

You've got PM

I don't know how hard you drive or what power your car makes, but remember Aluminiun melting point is quite low.

Although it should not be a problem.

Just remember to retorque it quite often, as the Aluminium will squish out after a while.

I don't know if you skimmed the manifold but if you didn't i'll start there, Freddie had s/s gaskets made and with the skimming and new gaskets it worked fine, I woulfd not rocomend fore gum, use normal sylecone....it works...

Firegum is really terible, it don't even last on a high compression N/A motor, I have had endless trouble, I'm now also going to make my own gasket, as nothing off-the shelf is available, but luckily I don't drive it daily, likeonce every few months.

I really think S/S would be a better option 😉

You just have to remember that the reason for having a gasket to compensate the different thermal characteristic of the head and the cast manifold. They will expand differently so therefore cant be a face fit. If you are using stainless go check to see how it expands in relation to the cast manifold and head.

I used those perferated stainless gasket and no problem. You just have to re-torque them a few times in the beginning.

Firegum keeps my downpipe to zaust just fine 🙂

wouldnt use it on the manifold tho 😕 Skim the mani and ja should be fine, i used red hermitite (or sumthing) on my gaskets and havent had a problem again...yet

Sorry about the 20 Questions....

But ...

What boost are you running?

Is it still the stock exhaust manifold and turbo?

Do you have a boost gauge?

Are you using stock nissan gaskets?

GGary5707 Jun 2007, 10:01

Its stock... so 0.6Bar boost, stock turbo and manifold, non Nissan gaskets.

jjohansx07 Jun 2007, 10:02

Try to get the gaskets made from a couple of thin S/S sheets rivited together. Think mine comes from Midas. Try to replace the studs with new ones and always use NEW copper coted lock nuts. I also spend lots of $$$ and time taking off the S/S manifold until I tried the above. Never had problems with the cast manifold, but it is a good idea to check the mating surfaces.

GGary5707 Jun 2007, 10:04

I would pull it off check if its straight if not skim it and put it back together.

Then use OEM, they should be better quality and ask Calibrator what sealer he uses, he should be using the best available with the stuff he builds.

GGary5707 Jun 2007, 10:07

Use those perferated stainless gaskets with new studs and silicone.

PPhinx07 Jun 2007, 10:23

Use those perferated stainless

These thing are shit...
Use nissan OEM and Copper Spray for the Head to Manifold gasket

Then also use a nissan gasket from the Manifold to turbo, Sealing with Fire-gun...

Thats what I use with-out an issue...

ThaNKS GUYS

my two P:

i've never had any hassles with this, but it could also mean that i ahvent checked often enough.

but i used OEM nissan gaskets and installed them without any sealer. i used a bit of copper slip to keep them in the correct position while installing them but thats it.

i've been driving for almost 25000km's like that and no problems yet!
