Howzit mates.

I have a ca18det and have been thinking about pulling the engine out and giving it some TLC.

I plan to change;

Main rod bearings
Timing belt
Pulley's
Valves and springs
Gaskets
Water pump
Oil pump
Studs,

Is there anthing else that i should add to my list?
And can anyone help me with prices?

Thanks very much.

while you got the motor our mayswell do all the bearings big end and main and put in acl racing bearings dont mess around and change all the gaskets buy yourself a full cometic gasket kit. dont mess around put performance stuff back in no std unless you cant get it do rings aswell

wanted to do the pistons, rods and rings. what are good products to keep an eye out for? Seen a couple of sets for just under $1000 on eBay.

If you gonna go cometic (MLS), it is recommended that you skeem your block and head and not just the head otherwise Payen is fine.
Is this just an engine refresher or are you planning to boost the crap out of the CA?

Also ARP head bolts for an even torque.
While you at it clean your MAF sensor and replace vacuum lines.

Pretty much boosting a reasonable amount of crap out of it. And doing the radiator hoses.

Had a look at your pics. Depending on what power you looking at... A SR20 might be a better option if you want to make over 240kw reliably without throwing too much money or just drop in a RB25 or 2JZ and be done with.

llloyd bradley15 Apr 2012, 09:55

Thought abot that, but an SR20 conversion is not the cheapest thing to drop in. I have seen a complete drop in with harness, ecu and gear box for R60 000. I only paid 15 000 for the car.

That turbo has definatly seen better days. Going to try stick to good quality well known name brand products. I have gotten hold of the guys from team obsession for some of the parts, wanted to find out if they cant post some of the things to me because i have little time to make a trip down south, were if I buy off eBay the deliver straight to my door, after waiting a couple of weeks tho.

thats a full cometic gasket set oem rings oem oil pump and acl racing bearings and a oem timing belt it took opr very quick to bring it in a ship it to me just make sure you know wether you have a 8 port or a four port because the gasket set is different

llloyd bradley15 Apr 2012, 10:49

Great stuff. How did you pay him? Where did you source your intercooler from and all the piping?

SSonOfAnarchy ZAadmin15 Apr 2012, 15:05

i did a eft into his account and the intercooler i swaped but any performance place you can get a intercooler and the piping you must just buy bends and build it up yourself

llloyd bradley21 Apr 2012, 19:25

Is there any means of finding out if you need a 4 port or an 8 port gasket before pulling the head off?

rratadmin21 Apr 2012, 19:57

Head gasket same. Just the intake gasket. Look for the butterfly rail In front of the fuel rail.

What is the standard bore & stroke and compression ratio for the ca18det?
I have read in the manual that it's 83.0 * 83.6 and 8:5

llloyd bradley26 Apr 2012, 17:49

And with the ARP Bolts & Studs, which kit should i look for? I have seen a 202-4702 and a 202-4302, whats the difference? And is there a bolt kit for the conrods?
